The offer

The white void was silent. Demetrius had calmed down, no longer in a state of rage and hatred, and Xavier had recovered from the soul and mind degradation he suffered from moments ago. The being had mentally assured the brothers that what had happened was a fault on its part, and that it had fixed Xavier.

It didn't convince Demetrius, his paranoia showing itself greatly. Though Xavier was much more accepting of it.

Unknown to both, the being didn't care how they felt. It had only fixed the younger brother due to his potential, and professional courtesy. It had been the one at fault after all. Besides that, Xavier's affinities while not on the same level as Demetrius, were still wildly impressive.

It didn't want to lose such valuable assets. Though that didn't mean It couldn't play with them a little bit, and make them work for the boons It would give them when It sent them off. Perhaps if they impressed enough the being would give more than It planned.

…..

"Who are you? And why have you brought us here? " The older brother spoke calmly, breaking the silence between the three that threatened to stretch to infinity.

Though the man regained his bearings right after his brother calmed him, Demetrius decided not to speak until now. This situation was delicate. He could not afford to make any major mistakes here.

An answer didn't come straight away from the being, but Demetrius didn't mind. It gave him more time to think.

'It's strange how familiar this feels' Demetrius thought warily.

' Almost as if this, or something of a similar nature, has occurred before.' continued the eldest brother with curiosity and slight confusion.

It was a weird sensation to Demetrius. The feeling of familiarity was there, but the backstory and reason behind it wasn't.

He didn't time to ponder any longer though, as the being that had brought them here made its move.

The being suddenly shifted, and in the next instance instead of something indescribable, stood a tall, skinny, grey, featureless humanoid wearing only a white t-shirt and blue pants.

The being then proceeded to bow dramatically before speaking with a voice that portrayed nothing. No accent or gender. Rather it was robotic yet still had emotions behind it.

" My name is Tri, and I reign over the domains of body, mind, soul, and white void. I have brought you here for an offer." The being now known as Tri spoke elegantly.

Both brothers weren't particularly shocked by this development.

Demetrius had only let out a small audible hum at the statement. This was within his realm of expectations. From the moment he had gotten here this scenario had played within his mind at least a thousand times. Of course other scenarios played as well, just not as much.

The way this went largely depended on if this being was of the kinder variety. That trick it did to heal his brother did nothing to convince him of Its true nature. He had the instinctual feeling he'd seen people put on a kind act before, only to turn out to be monsters later.

Xavier on the other hand stayed silent. He didn't exactly know how to react. He felt as if he'd read something similar to this, but couldn't figure out what. All he knew was that upon hearing the being speak about its power, a single word crossed his mind a multitude of times.

Reincarnation. Of course he knew what reincarnation was, but he didn't understand what it had to do with this situation. However, something told him he should.

On another note the youngest yet tallest brother, couldn't get a good read of the being that had brought them here. The intentions of the being were all but unknown. The only certainty was that the being needed them for something it couldn't do or had no authority over.

"I see. Well enlighten us to what exactly you're offering, and we'll consider it." Demetrius spoke unhesitantly to the literal faceless being, his emotionless tone a deeper octave than moments ago.

He did not care if his tone came off as rude. He wasn't going to play in this being's game. The fact that the being came to them with an "offer" instead of forcing them to do whatever it wanted spoke of their position. Though this may have been a part of its game as well.

A laugh escaped the grey humanoid upon hearing the blatant use of words and tone from Demetrius. It didn't think the man could figure out so quickly that it was somewhat limited in its actions towards them. The man was smart, and Tri loved the small challenge that the mortal gave him without trying.

When Tri brought them to their new world it knew they would cause chaos. It could imagine the faces of the other gods when they glance upon "his heroes"of choice. It was going to be fun.

Though before Tri could enjoy that, he needed to break the newbies in.

" It's amusing that you believe you have a choice in matters of accepting, but I'll play along." The being said chuckling as It did so.

They did in fact have a choice, but Tri wasn't going to tell them that.

" I offer another chance at life in a world of swords and magic. But not reincarnation, rather transporting you there. With additional boons of course. I wouldn't want you defenseless." Tri said with a tone that resonated within both brothers minds.

This tone did not sit well with the brothers. They had heard it before, somewhere in the past. It reminded them of something foul, cunning, and ruthless.

But eventually they pushed it to the back of their minds. Wanting to ponder on that matter in future rather than the present.

Shaking off the feelings of familiarity, Xavier for the first time contributed to the conversation.

" W-what d-do y-you g-get o-out of t-this, o-out o-of u-us?" Xavier's stuttering voice rang out, questioning the beings motives despite his timid nature.

" Right to the point huh? Not even going to ask me about the world I'm sending you to?" Tri said in response, putting Its full attention on Xavier with its faceless head, its sarcasm even more obvious.

Xavier said nothing. Instead choosing to avoid eye contact with the faceless slab of meat that acted as the beings head. It honestly scared the man to look at it.

Thankfully his brother came to the rescue before Xavier got too frightened. Demetrius noticed his brother getting nervous and decided to take over from there. He had stepped in front of Xavier and allowed his grey eyes to stare directly at the being calling Itself Tri.

" Despite your offer, I hope you can understand that we would like to know what our benefactor gains out of this. It's only proper that both sides are satisfied with the end result." Demetrius said smoothly, his apathetic voice adding to its appeal as his eyes narrowed at the being.

He saw what the being was doing. Trying to get inside his brother's head. Cause Xavier to make rash decisions at the least, or have a panic attack, which he was prone to. Demetris wasn't going to let that come to fruition.

After a brief stare down, one which neither side were losing to Tri's amusement, the being spoke.

"Very well then. " Tri said, slightly disappointed that they wouldn't play Its mind games. It really wanted to play with the younger brother. He seemed easily panicked, and wanted to break the man out of his shell. Sadly it seems Demetrius didn't appreciate Its efforts.

That's just too bad. This next part would fill that void though.

"What I get out of this is twofold. Payback, and of course a single favor I can cash in whenever I want from each of you." Tri said with the same tone as earlier.

It wouldn't be until later that both brothers would realize what this tone meant.
