The Capital Of Evertine

Chapter 6

Alyth's P.O.V

Daddy is leaving tomorrow. And because they are going to participate in Eveldelsa for 2 years, they have to get ready. Vindra needs to restock on arrows, Jin needs new punching gloves* (not boxing gloves, and don't look like them), and everyone else needs to resharpen their swords. So they have to go to the capital of Evertine.

"Papa, why do eo habe tho go tho capithal? (papa, why do you have to go to the capital)" Daddy was currently holding me and walking alongside everyone. To go to the capital* (of Evertine), which is thank goodness, not across a body of water (otherwise we'd have to sail for a day and a half), we have to rent horses. It takes a few hours to get to the capital from the mid-point* and to get to the midpoint, it's 6 hours from Masilta.

"It's a rule. When preparing for an Eveldelsa, 'you have to go to the capital to restock and get ready*'." Hm~ I see. That's a smart way of making money. Especially since there's a lot of Eveldelsas going on in Evertine since Evertine is the land with the most forests and mountains*.

"The problem is that when there's an Eveldelsa, they raise the goddamn prices!" Poor Halvort, he's the poorest of us all. He barely has the money to resharpen his sword. Not just by money, but he has the worst luck of us all.

"That has been the rule ever since king Sevelion III has been king. That's how they make money." Answered Jin. "Making money by poor people, when he's the damn king!" I gotta say, Halvort is making sense. "Shut up! Everyone will hear you!" True. Just listen to daddy, Halvort. Especially when everyone loves the king.

"So, we should split up." Said Ben. Everyone has their own thing to do.

"I'll go find somewhere that sells arrows. I should buy some clothes proper for fighting too." "I'll go buy punching gloves. I'll meet you back here in 3 hours." Vindra and Jin went off on their own. I guess we're heading to a sword shop.

As soon as we entered the shop, I felt stares. People can already tell that we're here because of an Eveldelsa. "Hello, young sir! If I can assume that's your daughter and you're here because of an Eveldelsa, why don't you leave her with my wife? We can guarantee her safety until you come back." I forgot about those.

Kidnapping.

I heard a lot about this. Blackmailing the parent after kidnapping their child. I never thought things like these happened here. This man was probably going to sell me as a slave in the black market. It's honestly so scary. Things like this happen so boldly, in broad daylight, and in a very public place.

"No, it's okay." Dad glares at the man. "Ah, i-is that so…" The man backs off. Daddy put me down on the ground while still holding my hand. "Hello, how may I help you, sir?" "I would like you to resharpen this sword, as much as you can." The others were right behind him, waiting in line. "Oh goodness. This is a very good sword." The man looked one last time at the sword and then looked at daddy. "I'll be right back." He went into the room behind him and after a few minutes, he came back with a small book.

"This sword is Mevel. It's very strong. But be careful, because the spirit that resides in it is quite evil." Mevel, huh? What does he mean by that though? Can spirits live in swords? And they're evil as well? What the hell?

The man closed the book in his hand and put it on the counter. He took daddy's sword- or should I say, Mevel and took a deeper look at it. Then he grabbed a weird looking stone out of a shelf and started sharpening Mevel.

He finished after 2 minutes. WOW!! Mevel looks so damn sharp!! I might slice my finger off if I touch this! (why am I so fascinated by that?)

"That'll be 5 Beeves." Ah... yes. The DAMN money system. 5 beeves would be 5 dollars and 16 cents, but we'll refer to it as 5 dollars. Like I said before, daddy earns 50 cents a day. Beeves were basically dollars, and cents were eves. But aside from different naming and values, everything about money was the same. Even having to get 100 eves to make one beeve. Honestly, even though I get the idea that daddy is paid a low amount of money, the money he's getting every day would be considered awesome here. But still, everything is so expensive.

Daddy took out 5 beeves from the leather pouch attached to his belt and handed them to the man. Of course, he got his sword back. The same went for everyone. "We'll be checking out the area. Back in 3 hours." Daddy gripped my hand tighter and walked around the city. Evertine is so big!

We walked around for a while, checked some shops, and 2 hours were gone. But I've been thinking for a while. "Daddy, who'th going tho go tho thwe Ebeldweltha? (who's going to go to the Eveldelsa)" "Everyone except Mallo. Aver also decided to come along." Aver too? Well, it makes sense, since he is… Wait. Who's going to protect Masilta if he won't be there?

"Daddy! Who prothecth Mathiltha wiwthouth Aber? (who'll protect Masilta without Aver)" Daddy smirked. "Well, Mallo will. Until…" Until? Until what? SPEAK!!!

"Until you and Ribius can." ... What? Until I and Ribius can? What is he saying...? Ugh, forget it! This guy will drive me nuts!! (talks as if he isn't her father) How annoying can he get?! How UNLUCKY can I get to be HIS daughter?!?! If I could choose, I would never be this guy's daughter!! He's making a baby and a 9-year-old protect a WHOLE GODDAMN VILLAGE!!!! HE'S INSANE!!!! But seeing how they see me as a genius, I can understand (then why'd you just go on about how your dad is insane even though you can understand why he did that?).

I was about to ask him how, but I had this feeling he wouldn't tell me. Maybe Mallo or Ribius know something.

Hm? What's this shop? This wasn't the shop I and daddy were at... More importantly, where's dad?! Where's everyone?! I started panicking. "Daddy! Daddy!" I tottered around, trying to find my dad. "Hey, kid. Are you lost?" A… kidnapper? What am I supposed to do? I can't outrun him!! Daddy… help... ! "Where are your parents? Or wait, you're a baby." Wait… is he actually going to help me?

But…

Who is this guy? Long silver hair… bright summer blue eyes. He looks pretty wealthy. His clothes are very different. He also has a really cool sword wrapped on his waist. "Alyth nweeds daddy…" I muttered.

"So you can speak. What does your dad look like?" He asked as he kneeled in front of me. I wiped my tears and looked solemnly at him, never looking away. "Rewd hwair anth wreen eyeth." He probably can't understand. "Rreeed h-hairrr-" "It's alright. I can understand. Red hair and green eyes?" I nod. He stood back up and… he disappeared. EH?! Wait, something similar happened before. So, did he teleport or did he just abandon me?

That aside (the fact that you might be lost forever), he was a beautiful man. His eyes were like Sapphire jewels… his hair was like some fine silver… He also looked young. And he was willing to help me. Such kindness…

I saw some strange wind moving on the ground, then he reappeared. "I found your dad. Come with me." I extended both my arms to him and he picked me up. "Uh… How do I- um…" Oh, he doesn't know how to pick up a baby. CUTE!!! He was holding me up with his hands under my arms. I reached my hands towards his shoulders and held onto them. "Oh." He held me against his shoulder and kept his other hand under my bottom.

"ALYTH!!" I didn't have time to even see him as he teleported in front of me. "Papa!" The silver-haired man handed me to daddy, as I, of course, started crying. Daddy hugged me very tightly, and I cried some more while holding onto his neck.

After I finished crying, daddy turned to the silver-haired man. "Thank you so much. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't found her. Her mana is very large, thus I can't track her with less mana than her." He smiled. "It's alright. It is however dangerous for a pretty baby to be out there alone. Be careful." Daddy nodded.

"I know. Would you join us for a bit?" I hadn't realized that everyone was there. Wow, me missing is such a big deal. Heh, I am so important. I stared at dad. I missed him so much in these few minutes. He still looks handsome.

The silver-haired man hesitated for a bit. "I guess… it's alright… I do have some spare time." The man smiled.

"So, may I ask for your name?" Right, I still don't know the name of this hottie. "I am Aetherius. And you?" Dad nodded and glanced at everyone. It seems they met up a while ago. "I am Angyar. This is Ben, Halvort, Jin, Vindra, Moltis, and this is Alyth. We are also waiting for one more man. He's Aver." Oh, we are? "Ohhh... The infamous knight, Aver." He's a knight? I never knew that...

"Hey." AVER!!! He's finally here! Everyone had been talking for a while, and even this Aetherius guy is getting along with them. I, if you haven't forgotten my existence like some RED-HAIRED GUY over here, have gotten bored. So I waited. And waited. And waited some more. But he didn't show, and I almost gave up. But apparently, whenever I decide on something, everything goes against my thoughts.

I hate this. "Aver! Took you long enough." Halvort yelled from right next to my ear since he is the one holding me right now. "I ran into some trouble (I might write about this). Anyways, who's he?" Trouble? What could happen if he had his ID?

"I am Aetherius. Nice to meet you, Aver." Aver nodded in response, but stared at him for a while before taking his seat on the chair left for him. "As I was saying, you guys are here for an Eveldelsa?" Aetherius asked. Now it's gonna get boring.

"Yes. Apparently, there are many Abanders and other monsters spotted around the East mountains and clogging the entrance of the river, so there isn't any water reaching Masilta," Daddy nodded at Halvort's explanation and continued, "Which is why we're going to fight tomorrow." Aetherius nodded.

"Where are you going to leave your daughter?" Finally, there's some talk about me. "I am gonna leave her with a friend of mine, but he isn't really experienced with babies so I am quite worried."

"I see. Be careful, many people died while fighting in an Eveldelsa. Remember that you have a daughter." He got up from his chair. Is he gonna leave? "See you."

I swear I saw him glance at me and smirk while whispering, "Goodbye, Emme."

And Emme... was my name in my past life.
