Lore: Folly of the Pagans

Before the war of good and evil and before the commander of the holy host cast his brother down to hell, a great threat targeted heaven. The mother of nothingness, Chaos herself, unleashed the Protogenoi, the primordials born directly from her being. These beings of immense power and chaos were older than the gods themselves, each representing one of the elemental forces that shaped the cosmos. The reason behind Chaos targeting heaven remains unknown, but a prevailing theory suggests her weariness with the existence of creation, with heaven being the only obstacle standing in her way of its destruction.

The attacks on heaven were relentless, with the primordials killing thousands of lower-ranked angels, cherubim, and seraphim. The entire universe became a bloody battleground, devoid of safety from their terror. In response, heaven deployed two soldiers: Michael and Lucifer, both filled with unwavering determination to protect their Father's magnificent work. Their wings and armor radiated brilliant light, dispelling the darkness generated by Erebus and Nyx and spreading their foul essence throughout the universe. They overshadowed the feeble light of Aether and Hemera, compelling them to submit to defeat. With their swords and spears, they cut down the woman of misery, Akhlys, casting her body into the depths of Tartarus to be tormented eternally. With most of the Protogenoi incapacitated, the great warriors of heaven returned, and Chaos never attempted a feat of this magnitude again. However, in the end, heaven knew that the Protogenoi could never truly be killed as long as creation existed. This event became known as the folly of the pagans because the pagans realized that attacking heaven never ends well.

(I forgot how long it takes for Percy to actually receive a quest in the first book, so while we wait for his war game, canoeing, rock climbing, and sword training to end, here is a short chapter with some lore.)
