Call of the Amaroqs

"BRRRRNNNNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!" Heat's alarm rang.

As he got off his bed, he kicked the clock and it broke. Heat dragged his feet along the floor and entered the bathroom.

"So, school begins today huh?"

The thought of having to go back to the daily routine of school, work, home, or school, home, work, was not even the slightest bit pleasant to him.

"Heat, Heat, where are you?"

Debbie ran into his room and heard the shower running.

"I'd be down in a jiffy, alright."

A deflated Debbie walked out of the room. The moment she left the room, snakes began to enter the room and picked up clothing for Heat. They used their fangs to drag them out of the closet. He wore his clothes and combed his eternally upright white hair. As he left the room, he heard a snake hiss in his direction. He turned and saw the snake pushing his bag to him with its head.

"My, my, I forgot 'bout that. Ok boys, time to leave."

The snakes slithered out of the room while Heat went to the living room.

"I hope you guys have eaten already," Heat said.

"Nope. We were waiting for your lazy butt," Dan replied.

Heat smirked; he picked a small ball and threw it at Dan's head.

"Hey!"

"Words." Heat messed up Dan's combed hair. "Debb, when did you learn how to cook?"

"Wow! It worked accordingly!"

Heat turned to his elated brother. "What do you mean?"

"Dan has been reading some book on psychology since you started being absent from home," Debbie said.

"Read your school books, Dan, that's what's important."

"Says the establishment."

Debbie threw a ball at Dan.

"Niceeee." Heat gave his sister a high five.

Dan ran back inside the house to comb his hair once more.

"You did cook, right?" Heat asked.

Debbie opened her bag and showed him. "Yes, I did."

Dan ran back out to meet them with his hair looking good once again.

"Where's Debb?"

"She took the lead to the Jacobs' home."

"Nooo! Wait for me, Debb!" Dan held his bag straps tightly and ran as fast as he could.

Heat walked alone to school every day. The journey allowed him to clean his mind. The space, the smell of leaves, the sounds of creatures as he moved through the suburban neighborhood was medication enough for him. As He was walking, Heat felt a warm breeze blow past him. He paused and looked around.

"That's weird for this time of the year."

He decided to ignore the anomaly and continued his journey.

After a while, he heard Ursus' voice. "Heat! Where do ya think ya going to?"

Heat turned and saw Ursus waving at him from in front of the school.

"Dude, ya were walking right past the school."

"Guess I didn't notice. I had something on my mind."

"What's the matter? Sibling trouble?"

"Forget 'bout it, I don't even remember," Heat said as they both entered the school building. "Well, it looks like this place isn't a half building anymore. That sucks!"

"If it wasn't for you, it would've been a half building with dead bodies some days ago," Zainab interrupted.

"Okay then, I'm out." Ursus walked away.

"Look who is doing well," Heat said.

"What do you mean?" Zainab asked, as if she believed Heat knew something.

"Nothing, never mind."

"Something odd happened to me during the break though."

There was a sudden pause, as if time was frozen for a second and then the warm breeze occurred again. Heat waved his hand like he was trying to fan away some heat.

"Heat?"

"Man that breeze again."

"What breeze?"

Heat looked around the school hallway; everyone seemed to have felt nothing. It was the usual sight; people goofing off, throwing away a valuable tool—time. He looked at the entrance; the door was shut tight.

"Um, I'll get back to you Mira, I just remembered something important."

With that, Heat ran off.

"Heat, it's time for class!"

"Yeah, I know that!"

Heat grabbed Ursus and pulled him into the bathroom next to him.

"Ya know, a little warning next time would be nice."

"Have you felt a warm breeze today?"

"Dude, at this time of the year we don't get any warm breezes."

"So, you didn't feel it."

"Or maybe just like we tell ya, ya train too much. It's having an effect on ya. Spa control can be troublesome for someone who has that much buried in them."

"What was I thinking by asking you? Supido should at least know something about this. Do you know where he is?"

"Ok, first, what in the Dragon's home are ya insinuating? Second, if ya want Supido, he will be somewhere studying; he said he's gotta learn ahead."

"I thought he finished this year's syllabus a couple of weeks ago."

"To be honest, I don't know what he's studying. If ya wanna find 'im fast, use ya ground reception. Supido should pick that up. Finally, why hasn't anyone entered here since we did?"

"Because classes have started."

Heat shut his eyes and concentrated on his feet. It was like he was going through the blueprint of the school with his feet. He could sense a lot of noise and vibrations. He began to search for Supido's spa; after all, there should not be another wolf amen in the school. Heat suddenly felt a powerful presence trying to counter his technique.

"Idiot. Why are you making it so obvious that you are searching for something using ground reception? I'm on my way, cut it out already. Your lack of skill is embarrassing."

Heat fell off his feet.

"Ouch!"

"Really? Ya fell on your butt in the washroom? I bet that was Supido."

"How do you know that?"

"That's because I do it to snake amen who just don't know how to have face to face conversations." Supido entered the bathroom. "If I don't want to see your face to talk, I'll use a mobile phone."

"There ya are!"

"Oi, Ursus, you knew he was gonna do that, didn't you?"

"Uhm, eh, well...he's here, and that's what matters."

"I hope you two didn't call me here just so you could interrupt my studying session."

"Of course not, you'll need that to be able to beat me this semester." Heat rose to his feet and went to wash his hands. "Have you felt any warm breeze today?"

"Warm breeze?"

"I tried telling Heat here it was probably a-"

"Of course I have, I am rather shocked that you have."
