The Day That changed Everything

"Aiden sighed, 'It's so boring going to school, spending the whole day there, and then coming back home. Everything's so simple and easy. Why does my life feel so dull?'

Aiden, a 12-year-old, stared out the window from his room, wondering what it would be like to have an interesting life.

He heard a voice from downstairs.

'Aiden, are you up? Come down; Mom's calling you, and get ready for school,' said his sister.

'Why can't my family leave me alone for just a moment?' Aiden muttered in frustration.

In the dining hall:

'Finish your breakfast and go to school, okay, Aiden?' his mom said.

'Okay,' Aiden replied.

After breakfast:

'I'm leaving,' Aiden said.

'Be careful,' his mom replied.

'Mom, are you going to work today?' Aiden asked.

'No, I need to take your sister to the dentist,' she replied.

'No, I don't want to go,' his sister protested.

'Don't say that. You're a good girl, aren't you? If you go to the dentist, I'll give you a present,' Aiden said.

'Really?' his sister asked.

'Yes, I promise,' Aiden said.

'Well, I'm off now. Bye,' Aiden said.

'Bye,' his mom and sister replied.

It was the last time Aiden saw his sister and mom alive.

During lunch break at school:

'Nice weather today, don't you think?' Aiden's friend Jake said.

'Yeah, I guess so,' Aiden replied, once again lost in his thoughts.

Suddenly, a teacher rushed over to Aiden.

'Aiden!' the teacher shouted, breathing heavily. 'Your... your family...'

That afternoon, Aiden's mom and sister were killed in an accident. An overspeeding car hit them while they were on their way to the dentist.

Memories of his family flashed through Aiden's mind. 'This morning, my life was boring, but...' Tears welled up in his eyes as he fell to his knees. 'This is even worse. This...' He pulled a pendant from his pocket. 'Who am I going to give this to?' he burst out, overcome with regret and sorrow.

Aiden's father had already passed away, leaving him completely alone in the world. With no one to care for him, he started living on his own and transferred to a government-funded school with a scholarship.

Two years had passed since the incident. Now 14, Aiden managed everything on his own. He walked home from school alone, his face silent and distant.

'So, he is the chosen one. Ah, poor boy,' said a man sitting on a rooftop, watching Aiden. His face was obscured by sunlight, but his smile was visible. 'I guess...' he added with a soft, calm smile.
