9: Bring Her

Who were the Waynes?

If you asked the public or commoners this, most wouldn't know since the Waynes were not really popular.

But if you asked the upper echelons of the world who the Waynes were. Then all would be able to give you an answer.

The Waynes were one of the most influential families that have supported the world's technological advancement. Though the Waynes were not the richest in the world, they were bonafide billionaires.

So what should one expect from a billionaire tech family?

A large mansion with cutting edge and state of the art technology? Advanced security systems? Advanced communication?

All of these facilities were what the Wayne mansion should originally have. But that was if this current Wayne mansion was the main mansion of the Waynes.

The Wayne mansion where Andrew, Esther, and Edgar lived was actually the sixth and the newest mansion the Waynes owned.

Due to a certain emergency that came up, Andrew's father and mother had to leave Andrew and Esther without fortifying and improving the Sixth Wayne mansion. Andrew's father and mother were meant to be at work for two months at most, and during that period, Edgar was in charge of fortifying and improving the Sixth Wayne mansion.

But, there was a major problem.

The Waynes had just bought the mansion a week ago, and a week was not enough to fortify and improve the Sixth Wayne mansion to a decent level. Edgar needed, at most, three more days to start the fortifications of the sixth Wayne mansion.

Intruding into a properly fortified and secured Wayne mansion was much harder than breaking out of a top class prison. This is why on a normal day, Andrew and Esther should have been completely safe.

But how could Edgar, or Andrew's father and mother, know that the lives of Andrew and Esther would be in danger just because of the pettiness, stubbornness, and disbelief of an eight year old kid.

Due to these and a lot of other undercurrents and manipulations, the Wayne mansion had an intruder that would forever alter the fate and destiny of the Waynes.

-----

Although the Waynes did not have enough time to fortify their sixth mansion, the garage of the sixth Wayne mansion was beautiful and state-of-the-art.

If there was one thing that Andrew's father always considered when choosing a new mansion, it was the quality of the mansion's garage.

As Andrew stood before the ornate metal doors of the garage, he felt his head throb and his heart beat faster in anxiety.

"Come on. Wouldn't you check it out? You've been blabbering on and on about wanting to save and see your sister."

Thomas' mocking words were like shrapnel driving deep into Andrew's chest. He wanted to see his sister, he knew he had to see if his sister was in the garage. But… he was terrified… Extremely terrified.

Sniff

Andrew's eyes became wet once again, and he used his clothes to wipe his tears.

"By the devil you're such a crybaby. Where's all the tough guy act you had before huh? Thomas shook his head with a disappointed expression.

Andrew inhaled and exhaled deeply, and then he walked to the garage doors. He reached out and pressed a button on the wall beside the garage doors, and the doors began to slide open with a low hum.

Thomas grinned widely, but a second later, his grin completely vanished.

He quickly jumped to the side, but…

Bang!

The loud sound of a gunshot reverberated in the ears of every living being in the garden of the Sixth Waye mansion.

Andrew was stunned. He shakily turned his head to his right, and his heart skipped two beats when he saw a bullet-sized hole in the wall near his head.

The distance between his head and the bullet hole was barely 5cm.

"I didn't expect you to get here so quickly."

Thomas' voice flowed into Andrew's ears, and he turned to look at Thomas. His eyes widened slightly when he saw a bleeding hole in Thomas' shoulder.

'What's going on?' Andrew thought with a baffled expression.

"I also didn't expect you to dodge that bullet. You're clearly not an average human like you portrayed yourself."

A familiar voice flowed into Andrew's ears, and his heart skipped in immense joy and relief. His eyes lit up, and with a voice and an emotion he would have never made under normal circumstances, he shouted:

"Edgar!"

Andrew could not believe the immense joy and relief he felt as he stared at Edgar pointing two guns at Thomas.

If an outsider were here, he or she would think Edgar was perfectly fine, and he had just arrived without any issues. But in Andrew's eyes, he could see Edgar's rumpled and wet clothes, and he knew that Edgar had gone through something either dangerous or tasking.

The Edgar he knew would never allow his clothes to be rumpled and rough. Edgar loved cleanliness, and he would never allow himself to appear dirty and rough unless he had no other choice.

"Apologies for being late young master. I don't know how, but I was drugged by this assassin, and I struggled to awaken."

The tone that Edgar used to speak was a tone he had never heard Edgar use in his entire life. Edgar's tone was immensely cold and calm. But Andrew knew that there was immense anger in that voice.

Andrew could literally see the air around Edgar being influenced by his emotional state.

"It's alright Edgar… sniff… I'm just glad you're here." Andrew wiped his eyes with his sleeves once again, and then he looked down. "Also… I'm… I'm sorry for everything I've done and said to you."

"Although your apology makes me glad, we don't have time for such a scene." Edgar stared at Thomas, who just stood there with a light smile.

"Where's the young miss? I couldn't find her." Edgar glanced at Andrew, and Andrew looked at the open doors of the garage.

"She might be in there." Andrew pointed at the open doors of the garage, and Edgar frowned.

"Can you please check inside? And if she's inside, bring her out." Edgar said, and Andrew nodded.

"Why you check inside the master's garage, I'll take care of this garbage here."

Andrew nodded, and he ran into the garage.
