Chapter 12: Seeing Dad

Right now I was sitting at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, in the spot Remus usually sat in. Although I hadn't spoken to the other boys since the incident with Naomi, I still decided to sit with them every now and again but only for my brother. Despite James and Sirius' multiple attempts to try and talk to me on multiple occasions, I still ignored them and intended to until they would actually attempt to make friends with Naomi. Two people came over and sat either side of me and two others sat opposite at the Gryffindor table. I glance up from my book (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them obviously) and lock eyes with Remus who was as pale as a ghost and swaying slightly. His hair was messy and his tie loose which just shows how weak and tired he was. I send my brother a sympathetic smile which he returns before sitting down. Peter was already sitting down beside him, already stuffing his face, which meant the two people I was trying to avoid was either side of me. I couldn't really blame them for I was sitting in their spot, but that didn't mean that I wasn't mad at them. "Look Meadow we-" starts James to my left, slightly turning but I cut him off."I don't want to hear it" I snap, continuing to eat my toast in silence. No one dared break it although the rest of the hall was taking around us. For a while we sit in silence until James, Sirius and Peter started a conversation which I ignored- Remus chimes in a few times but less than usual. I continue to read until I am kicked under the table, my blue eyes lock with my brother's green and he sends me a single nod. We both rose from our sets almost in sync our eyes no longer connected while the other three watched us. "We're going for a walk around the lake, we'll see you in potions later" Remus explains to the trio still seated. I pick up my bag and place it on my shoulder and grab my book to before walking down the hall with Remus hot on my heels. My bright blue eyes began to swoop over the crowds of students in the hall as Remus and I walk down it. They land on Naomi at the Slytherin table who seemed paler than usual but to be fair she never turned up to eat so it was most likely from hunger. When she spots me watching her from the other side of the hall, she looks away immediately. When Remus sees where I am looking, he takes my arm and changes our course to the Slytherins. "Naomi can we ta-" Remus began when we reached the Slytherin girl. However she got up and ran for it as soon as my brother began talking. I watch after her sadly feeling sorry for the girl, she had no one after all. Not even a friend in her own house. "Let's just leave her be, she needs time" Remus sighs just as he starts leading me out onto the grounds. We walked in silence with a light wind blowing my deep brown hair around us. My brother's tired eyes watched the lake ripple slightly here and there until Remus started a conversation. "Is everything okay sis?" he asked with a look of worry upon his face."I'm absolutely fine Rem, anyway it should be me asking you that. Do you realize it's the full moon tonight?" I answer quietly so no one could overhear. With a sigh, he nods and rakes a pale hand through his sandy brown hair."I know... but it will be okay"."But what if it's not? What if a student sees you or gets suspicious?" "They won't besides Madam Prompfrey will be there"."To do what?" I practically scream at Remus, stopping dead in my tracks. "Even with Madam Prompfrey there, don't you think it will look suspicious that your walking away from the Hospital Wing?" Remus nods with a sigh "I guess your right, but I'm your brother, I can tell that something else is on your mind...""Okay you've caught me... I was thinking about something else." My brother opens his mouth to speak but I cut in. "It was about what happened on Saturday, with the visions"."You mean the ones to see where I was?" Remus asks and I just reply with a few simple nods. "Have you encountered any more of those abnormal visions?" he asks quietly looking behind us and then back at me. His green eyes watched my body tense slightly as we continue walking around the lake in silence. All that could be heard was the wind singing with the birds, the ripples passing over the lake and both mine and my brother's footsteps hitting against the grass. Leaves of browns, oranges, reds and yellows were already beginning to cover the floor like a carpet slowly being rolled out but there was still enough left to cover some of the branches on each tree. My eyes looks between leaf to leaf taking in each of their beauties but I knew I would have to answer Remus' question at some point."Yes... the ones where I could see you... and Naomi too. I haven't had anymore of those visions either and-" I was about to say that I didn't to know if it was worth trying to see what someone else using the power but Remus had interrupted. "And you didn't know whether to try and see someone else?" Remus smirks as if he could read my mind. I nod once more once again looking out at the lake as we stopped under a small beech tree overlooking the dark lake. "I say we give it a shot but we don't have to if you don't want to. I don't want you to be uncomfortable or anything...""It's okay, I will try again. I will also do Mum and Dad again so here it goes". I sit down on the ground leaning up against the beech tree and close my eyes. Memories from years ago flooded into my mind and Ithought of the same question as last time. To my delight I am greeted with a flash of white.A man was standing beside a small tank filled with pixies appeared in front of me. The small creatures were an electric blue and their wings looked so fragile- even when they were zooming around the tank. The man was taking notes on the creatures on a piece of spare parchment while other people were working around him. Still holding the parchment and quill, the worker pulled a small camera out of his left pocket and snaps a few pictures of the pixies before slotting it all back in his suit pocket. When he looks either side of him, I recognize it as none other than my father who must be working in the Ministry. This meant that me trying to see him worked and I was watching what he was doing at this very moment. Lyall began to wander away from the pixies moment later and a flash of light teleports me to the enclosure he was now at. On a perch was a tropical bird of a hot pink with a small nest of brilliant patterned eggs in a nest not far from them. My father takes another few pictures of the bird and their eggs before once again tucking his camera into his pocket."Wow Meadow would love this Fwooper. Too bad that she will only be able to see her from the pictures and not in reality. By the time she is home for Christmas this fella will be back in America where she belongs". My father lets out a long drawn sigh and gets back to his work when another flash sends me back to Hogwarts. My blue eyes flutter open and I'm faced with a brilliant blue sky with only a few clouds in sight. A few branches which are now quickly losing their leaves sway lightly over me from the beech tree I lie under. Remus sits at my side, his scars popping out of his face from where the sun is reflecting on them. He looked hopeful from where he sat on the delicate grass which was slightly dying for winter would be upon them in the next couple of months. What I once again didn't realize which also happened when I saw Remus and Naomi in the vision- was that there was a glow on my wrist. The edges of the seashell were glowing a deep pink and the pearls had gone a pastel version of that colour. Usually they would be the traditional white pearls so they must of changed with the glow. "I saw Dad at the Ministry" I croak out to Remus who smiles in reply. He brushes some hair out of his face and is about to speak when of course someone but in. "You saw your father at the Ministry? But how you've been at Hogwarts the whole time?" They say and when I look for the source of the voice I see a boy with glasses. James Potter had a look of confusion upon his face as did Peter and Sirius either side of him. James' hazel eyes locked with my blue for a split second before breaking away leaving me to roll my eyes."It's none of your business how I saw our father at the Ministry. Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to pop into the Library and do some quick studying before potions" I snap at them before getting up and walking across the grounds. Remus didn't follow me and decided to stay with the boys over by the beech tree but of course I knew what he was going to do- or try to at least. He was going to take their minds of what I said... to hide my power...
