Steps of magic

With Sougo now having a Syyon, Mika went to the field of his house to train Sougo who had just recently obtained magical powers. Although Sougo was magicless, he understood the principle of magic much like concentrating the whole atmosphere. Thus, he summoned a small hurricane from his palm.

"Outstanding! But those are just the basics, we still need progress to make it adequate. Therefore, let's take it up a notch!" Mika offered Sougo to increase the level of training.

Mika then demonstrated how he held his lighting together by affixing the particles from his surroundings making them into a sphere of magic. As the particles round up, they converted into a yellowish ball of lighting with sparks letting out. The size was around the size of a tennis ball.

Sougo's eyes were awestruck by his control and unable to resist the beauty of his magic.

"Take caution, even if it's an ordinary ball of magic, it has a very deadly power," Mika warned Sougo about the cause.

"This took me 3 weeks more to gain control. This method is called "surrounding conversion," which means you'll gain energy or mana from around you. Usually, it only works when there's a high life force, so it's totally useless inside the "dead zone". Since I'm a lightning user, you can see that my Syyon is yellow alongside my magic, to answer your.

"Compared to wind magic, I think you can gather up mana easier than I do. Hence, wind comes everywhere, and it's also a very convenient magic. Give it a try!" Mika dispersed the energy ball from his hand and insisted that Sougo try next.

Sougo lifted his palm directly facing the sky. With a hard effort of concentration, he tried to gather as much mana as possible from his surroundings, but they kept dissipating for no reason.

"It ain't easy, right?" Mika giggled.

"You'll get the hang of it soon, I hope. How about you try this word to make the casting a little lot better."

"Arithfū." Mika gave his chant to Sougo to make things a little easier for him to cast.

"Arithfū!" Sougo pronounced it correctly and the mana gathered up above his palm.

The particles from his surrounding then took a shape of a ball similar to Mika's but with a greenish color. The ball let out a strong hurricane of wind traveling around it.

"Nice! Chanting sure makes things easier, right? Arithfū is a spell to gather up mana, similar to Lagnaräz, but with simpler steps." Mika smiled with joy as he saw Sougo's face filled with surprise.

Regardless of Mika's explanation, Sougo expressed more curiosity than ever, including the difference, "Will you mind telling me the difference?"

"Lagnaräz is for good control and a booster when you use a highly charged attack. I'd say it is the older brother of Arithfū. Arithfū is a chant meant for wind users, and lighting users use Narifū. It's a basic spell to condense magic into a sphere, and obviously, there's a limit to condensing it. In short, Lagnaräz only helps to prevent the charging attack from exploding its owner and boosting its power by a mile, and Arithfū is to condense wind magic with a limited amount." Mika gave a general knowledge about the difference to steeped thin Sougo's inquiry.

"Then why did you say it last? After it was ready, you shot it, and then you said the chant. You just charged it without even casting it before you shot." As aforementioned, Lusina understood; however, she lacked understanding about why Mika didn't use it while he was charging.

"That's because there are steps in using it. One, you must have good control over condensing magic. Two, you need a huge amount of mana. Three, when I release the magic, it lets go of control, so, it'll explode or dissipate soon enough before it even hit the target. Its purpose is to hold the magic so it won't go anywhere after I fired it." Mika clarified.

"Alright, speaking of that chant, I'll teach you advanced spell!" Mika proceeded by teaching advanced magic.

"Advanced spell, you may have heard of it when I cast that devastating magic with the Lagnaräz spell. It's a type of spell that can be invented and learned or renewed. If you read books, there are dozens of advanced spells and forms of magic. Despite that fact, you can't just cast it right away; there are methods for how to use them, additional spells you need to use them, and other requirements as well." Mika elucidated that to cast an advanced spell, one must undergo the steps involved in using it.

Advanced spells existed with or without Syyons, so it all depended on mastering magic. As explained, it needed certain requirements to be used, such as a weapon, a spell, and a method. As Mika already stated, Syyons were used to make life simple and to get stronger even faster, not as access to using magic but as an easier way to utilize it.

"So yeah, advanced spells don't need anything or certain affinities; you can cast them even if they are outside of your forte; you just need training. There are different types of advanced spells out there, including non-elemental types. Syyons are for identifying their host's natural elements and gaining access to that element more easily; some may even have more than one."

With all the necessary details had been explained, Mika finished it with his last explanation, "Oh, I forgot to mention, you can use them without casting any chant if you have mastery over them."

Upon explaining with patience, Mika showed one of his advanced magic spells, not the advanced spells he used yesterday to fight the Unabī

Mika raised his right hand above his head and faced his palm upright. Then, his Syyon started shining bright yellow, and instantaneously, a giant ball of lightning was summoned. The ball of lightning that he summoned was now fifty times larger than earlier, demonstrating how far he had gone and motivating Sougo to reach his level.

"This is my advanced magic, quite easy for me because I don't need to squeeze the magic into a greater force but a different mass. However, when I throw it, its speed is like throwing a ball but has plenty of destructive force in it. Then, it all changes with one spell." Mika turned to his right.

"Nagär!" With a spell he shouted, he lunged at a random tree. The ball of lightning was fast, much like he threw a canon. As the ball hit, it exploded far away, creating a wind of shockwave.

With serious expression, he explained the uses of Nagär. "Nagär is a spell that works on both elements and non-elements to lighten the weight and increase the speed and power. It will move way much slower when I toss it if I don't use it. Destructive power yet has an average speed. I'm not yet an expert at this, but maybe one day I will be able to perform it without chanting. Don't worry, everything takes practice."

Later, Sougo attempted to use his wind magic using the information he had learned from Mika.

"Arithfū" Sougo created a magic ball by chanting.

Then, using a Nagär spell, he threw it to see how much power it held.

Just as Mika had said, with just a little ball of magic, it had such immense strength that it was able to split the tree in half. Meanwhile, if it were Mika, he would destroy the whole tree without incantation.

"Impressive! Now you're starting to get the hang of it! However, you're still in baby steps, there's more room for improvement." Mika was elated whilst Lusina clapped her hands.

After throwing the magic blast, Sougo gazed at his palm; he had never imagined using magic in a fantasy world. A spot where his soul found peace after witnessing the otherworldly splendor of each existence in this place. A place where if wars didn't happen.

"What's wrong? You seem to be lost there." Mika noticed Sougo's vacant gaze.

"Will you teach me more, Mika?" As Mika came into view, Sougo requested him to train him.

"Sure!" Mika smiled with his teeth shown.

Thus Mika with pleasure, coached Sougo and their bonds strengthened.
