Chapter 30

If anyone would ask him what awkward means, he would say that it was this moment. This is what is going through Dan's mind as they stand in front of the president's car.

When Alex received the text message from Keith that the Alpha is waiting for him at the visitor's parking area, his friend contemplated for a moment whether he would say that he already left the apartment or he would go down and meet the president.

"We're going to be late already. Why don't you just go and meet him. I can manage to travel on my own." Dan said to Alex, urging him to meet his Alpha.

"If I'm going then you're coming with me." Alex pleaded.

"He came here to pick up his mate not to become the shuttle service for the interns working in his company." Dan replied with a chuckle, amuse at his friend's reaction.

"Please... I.. I'm still too shy to be alone with him." Alex replied with his face red like a tomato.

Dan laughed. "Hey what are you? A teenager meeting his crush?" Honestly, Dan just doesn't want to intrude. The bonded pair is still on what you call "getting to know'' stage and his presence might hinder their progress, because he is sure Alex would cling to him and talk to him instead of the Alpha he bonded with.

Well of course Alex won, which is why they were all standing now in front of the Alpha's car like a standoff. The mood is so awkward that they don't know how to proceed. The president came with his bodyguard Martin which makes it all the more awkward for Dan as he doesn't want the Alpha to see him with his puffy eyes from all the crying he did last night after his phone call to his ex-boyfriend's sister.

"Shouldn't we be going now?" Dan whispered to his friend.

"Can you sit beside me?" Alex whispered back.

"Good morning Mr. President, I'm sorry for my lack of manners, I was a bit starstruck that I forgot to greet you." Dan greeted Keith as he pushed Alex towards his Alpha. "I'll sit in front if that's okay with you." Dan said with a smile, though smile faltered when Martin opened the door for him. On the other hand Alex sat at the backseat after Keith opened the door and assisted him to go in.

Awkward silence enveloped the car as they got out of the underground parking.

"Did you have your breakfast already? I can ask Martin to drop by somewhere along the way for a quick bite." Keith asked Alex, breaking the silence inside the car of awkwardness.

"I.. I ate breakfast already. How about you?" Alex meekly replied.

"I don't normally eat breakfast but I will have a morning coffee." Keith replied as he casually put his arms around Alex.

"I'll make you a cup of coffee once we get to the office." Alex said, his face is all red up until his ears.

"That would be perfect." Keith smiled and pulled Alex closer to him. When Alex did not push him and actually inched closer to him, Keith gave the Omega a kiss on the top of his head.

Alex was initially on his guard when he got in the car. He thought he wouldn't like it to be too near the Alpha but somehow he felt relaxed with Keith beside him. Too relaxed that he actually scooted in towards the Alpha. "Hmm he smells so great. His scent is soothing." Alex thought to himself. As he sniffed the Alpha's scent, Alex didn't realize that he already latched himself to Keith, his face already at the crook of the Alpha's neck.

Keith finds his Omega's action quite amusing. He was trying to casually and slowly pull the Omega close to him so as not to startle the latter with the sudden skinship. Then to his surprise it was actually Alex who latch on to him. He seems to like his scent as his Omega keeps on sniffing him and it looks like he found the perfect spot. His neck!

"Are you sleepy?" Keith couldn't help but ask. Alex seems to be intoxicated by his scent that he looks like a drunkard.

"Yeah..." Alex replied lazily.

"Want to sit on my lap and sleep?" Keith asked, half expecting the Omega to decline his forwardness.

"Okay." Alex responded with a yawn and he locked his arms on the Alpha's neck.

Keith lifted Alex and sat him on his lap then hugged the Omega like a baby. Alex buried his face on Keith's neck and fell asleep instantly.

Dan subtly watches the bonded pair from the rearview mirror and his eyes widen when Alex starts sniffing the Alpha. His jaw almost dropped when his friend let himself be lifted on the Alpha's lap. "So much for being shy." He couldn't help but utter.

"Are you saying something?" Martin asked the Omega beside him.

"Huh? Ahh... it's nothing." Dan replied awkwardly. Watching the bonded pair made him forget about the other Alpha beside him. The Alpha he doesn't want to see at the moment. It seems like he is always showing the Alpha his humiliating moments. Martin witnessed and saved him twice from getting kidnapped and being sold off to probably a brothel exploiting Omegas like him. Today he met the Alpha again when his eyes are all red and puffy and he looks ugly. The man is probably pitying him so much.

"How are you?" Martin asked while clearing his throat, waking up Dan from his reverie.

"Okay I guess."

"Are you perhaps going to stay with your friend for a while?"

"Don't worry I won't put your boss' Omega in harm's way. I'll try to find another place as soon as possible." Dan replied hastily and moved his body to the left and stared at the window.

"I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean it like that." Martin said while glancing at the Omega.

Dan regretted what he just said when he heard Martin's apologetic response. He didn't mean to sound harsh. It's just that he feels so pathetic and doesn't know how to face the Alpha after yesterday's events.

Keith raises his eyebrow at the two people in front. He doesn't know how the two got acquainted, Martin just shrugged it off when he asked him yesterday after finding his friend in front of Alex's apartment together with the other Omega. He can sense the tension coming from the two men. If he's hunch is correct, the two seem to be developing some kind of feelings towards each other. However, if that is the case, he wonders if the Omega can break the wall his friend has built in his heart. If not, hope Alex won't hate him in association if Martin ends up breaking the other Omega's heart.

"Hey Alex, wake up. We're almost there." Keith whispered gently in Alex's ears. He hates to wake the Omega but they already reach their destination.

"Hmmm?" Alex groaned not wanting to wake up. He slowly opened his eyes and was confused when he came face to face with Keith's neck. He had to blink twice to make sure he's not imagining things. Then he almost screamed when he realized he was sitting on the Alpha's lap and being held like a baby. "C..can you put me down please?"

Keith followed Alex's request reluctantly. He groaned inside his head and cursed to himself why they had to reach the office so fast. He wants his sniffing and cuddling Omega back. Well he still has his morning coffee to look forward to.
