Settling In

Part 4: Jack's first mission with the resistance goes wrong, and he finds himself facing an unexpected foe.

After weeks of training and preparation, Jack received his first mission from the resistance. He was tasked with infiltrating a high-security facility to gather intel on a powerful figure and their questionable activities. Jack was nervous but determined to do whatever it took.

He arrived at the facility under the cloak of darkness, dodging patrolling guards and cameras as he made his way deeper into the compound. It seemed like the mission was going smoothly until Jack stumbled upon something he didn't expect. In one of the laboratories, he saw something that brought him to his knees; it was a woman, bleeding and unconscious on an operating table. Jack quickly realized that something terrible was happening.

Then he heard her screams. A group of scientists was standing around her, doing unspeakable things to her. He saw them injecting her with something, and for a moment, he thought he could hear her thoughts. He knew that he had to do something to help her, but the other guard's presence put him at risk.

Before Jack could take action, he was surrounded by guards. They had caught him trespassing, and he knew there was no way out. He could feel the fear creeping in, but he tried to remain calm. The guards dragged him away and took him to their leader, a man with a cold, calculating gaze.

The man demanded to know why Jack was there and who he was working with. Jack didn't answer, knowing that they wouldn't understand the true nature of his mission. Mere seconds passed as he tried to absorb the abilities of his captors, but something was wrong. He found out that the man he was facing had no special abilities at all; he was just a man with no powers. Jack was confused and horrified; it was a massive shock to realize that not everyone had powers, and the implications of this revelation were vast.

It was at that moment when the woman suddenly sat up on the table, her eyes glowing in the dark. The guards around Jack backed away in fear as the woman started to speak to Jack. She said that she was one of the first people to be experimented on in this facility, and her powers had been artificially created. It was then that Jack realized that his abilities weren't natural either - they had been enhanced too.

The woman then urged Jack to fight, and with that, Jack realized that he could absorb her powers too. He did, and the world around him exploded; all the guards, machinery, and equipment scattered in chaos. Jack knew that he had no time to waste. Without a second thought, he fled the facility with the woman, whom he had saved.

As he looked back at the place where he had triumphed, he realized that his journey had become more complicated - there were many more questions to answer, many more people to save, and many more truths to uncover. And Jack was ready for whatever lay ahead.
