A Fated Meeting (IV)

It took me a few minutes of walking to spot the area that she told me. I hid behind the trees, inspecting the surroundings. Finding one of those creatures in this scenario shouldn't be difficult, and so it was, I saw it. A huge beast of 4 meters with big claws and a long tail, similar to a lizard standing in his 2 feet. It had a furious look and a territorial attitude, like he owned the whole place.

I have to take care of it at any cost, I can't let it hurt that girl. I didn't had a chance to save that kid back then, now I won't fail, I promise.

I thought that the best way to finish this was to sneak, from afar. I don't have any experience in firearms or bows, I just remember throwing stones at leaves carried by the river, nevertheless the other day I was able to aim at the forehead of my enemy and kill it. Perhaps I can do it again.

I approached slowly surrounding it from behind, from tree to tree hiding my presence and trying not to make any noise. In silence I took stance, materialized my glove and started to charge the light on my index finger.

In that instant that animal seemed to look around, eventually it stayed still. Did he realize that I'm here? Now that I think about it when I called my weapons they always reacted somehow. Maybe I'm too far to get noticed?

At this distance of about 25 meters I don't believe that I'm able to hit his head, therefore I'll make sure to aim at the torso. I have more chances of hitting a vital spot and end this fight quickly. If I'm not able to do it in one shot it doesn't matter, he'll be hurt badly and I'll only need to get close and finish it with my sword.

Yes, I trust it'll be alright.

While I was so focused aiming at the beast I didn't notice that another small one was approaching the scene. He tried to provoke it in vain, the great creature ended his life with a simple cut in the head. I was surprised for a moment by the fact that this things fight each other, even so my greatest problem was that he was moving constantly so I couldn't keep up and correct the trajectory for a perfect shot.

Stay still dammit! I thought while suddenly the energy on my glove finished charging and shot out before I got a clear aim at the target. Sadly my plan failed, the attack went past him and he noticed my presence because of the light and noise generated.

It can't be! I'll have to try again. If I hurry and charge another one immediately I could hit it before he approached me and it will be as effective. It only lasted 7 seconds to complete the charge, I should have enough time.

But no matter how much I waited, my finger wasn't charging.

"What's happening? Why it doesn't work!?"

I looked up and saw how the beast was getting close quickly to the place I was. I hid behind the closest tree and in an instant a simple scratch of his claws pierced it effortlessly, like a knife cutting butter. That move has damaged my back slightly leaving an exposed wound.

I moved away from the forest and went to an open field while I left a little trail of blood behind. Now that I don't have the surprise factor in my side and the trees won't work as cover I'll go on in a one on one combat without any obstacles. I stopped and turned around, the lizard took his time and placed in front of me.

I'm okay, I can still fight.
