Chapter 3

KAYLA'S POV

It was such an emotional morning the day I had to leave for New York. I hugged mum and Liam so tightly, I never wanted to let go, ever.

We landed in New York City, after hours of being on the plane.

Austin and I boarded a taxi to the house he bought in New York sometime ago. I really want to ask him why he doesn't live at New York, but I remember his work at our town, Oak Hill

He is a lawyer, one I am proud of everyday.

We reached the house, and a petite girl came out to help us carry our bags.

"This is Stella, my cousin." Austin said, wrapping his arms on my waist, snuggling me closer to him. He placed a kiss on my cheeks.

I waved awkwardly at his cousin, who stood there with a smile on her face.

"I'm Kayla Anderson."

She smiled and pulled me into a hug, involuntarily dragging me away from Austin. He scowled at her. "It's so nice to finally meet the girl that makes my cousin go crazy." She laughed loudly, playfully hitting Austin's hand.

"At least someone beautiful stole his heart." She added, glancing at Austin. A part of me told me she is talking about his exes.

I watched them banter, feeling quite uncomfortable . At least they are a happy family.

"Come on, I brought some freshly baked cookies. Mum made it and asked to send it over to you." Stella said, pulling me into the kitchen. I follow her like a dummy.

We landed in New York City, finally.

Austin and I board a taxi to the house he bought in New York sometime ago. I really want to ask him why he doesn't live at New York, but I remember his work at our town, Oak Hill

He is a lawyer, one I am proud of everyday.

We reached the house, and a petite girl came out to help us carry our bags.

"This is Stella, my cousin." Austin says, wrapping his arms on my waist, snuggling me closer to him. He places a kiss on my cheeks.

I waved awkwardly at his cousin, who stand there with a smile on her face.

"I'm Kayla Anderson."

She smiles, pulling me into a hug, and away from Austin. He scowls at her. "It's so nice to finally meet the girl that makes my cousin go crazy." She laughs, playfully hitting Austin's hand.

"At least someone beautiful stole his heart." She added, glancing at Austin. A part of me tells me she is talking about his exes.

I watch them banter, feeling quite unconsciously. At least they are a happy family.

"Come on, I brought some freshly baked cookies. Mum made it and asked to send it over to you." Stella says, pulling me into the kitchen. I followed her like a dummy.

The kitchen was sparkling clean with everything in its right places.

Stella handed a basket filled with cookies to me. "A gift from my momma." She squealed excitedly.

I gave her a sweet smile. "Thank you."

"Why don't you freshen up while I whip something for you and that dummy." I laughed at the name she gave Austin who had no idea. These two wouldn't survive two days living under the same roof.

I walked out of the kitchen with the basket of cookies. I was itching to eat it, as the sweet smell hit my nostrils each time I brought it close to my nose. I manage to control the urge and dump the basket of cookies on the kitchen counter. I needed to shower before I ate anything.

"I'm going to shower now." I told Austin and walked past him.

The house is a two bedroom apartment, which is spacious. It is way bigger than my house at Oak Hill. I wish my family had to come with me.

Mom. Liam.

How could I forget my family? I promised to call immediately when I arrived. I took out my laptop from my bag to video call my mum.

She picked up immediately, Aubrey, Liam and mum all stared at me with huge smiles on their faces.

"As much as I'm happy to be here, I want to be with you guys." I said, lowering my eyes.

"I miss you bestie," Aubrey said, pouting. She looked like a baby whenever she did that.

"Seconded." Liam said, a sad smile on his face. "I wish you good luck sis."

"I do too." Aubrey added. I stared at mum, noticing the small smile playing on her lips.

"It's for us. Good luck Kayla. I'm proud of you. I love you baby."

I wipe the single tears that escapes my eyes. "I love you too mum."

I ended the call with them, and proceeded to freshen up. I dried myself up and pulled into a short, and a tank top.

The moment I entered the sitting room, the sweet smell of delicious food hit my nostrils. My mouth waters.

I met Austin and Stella in the kitchen, laughing over something. They whip their heads to my direction the moment they saw me walk in. I offered them an awkward smile.

Austin came to sit beside me on the dining table. "Why are you so cute?" He asked, his breath fanning my face. I breathe in, my eyes involuntarily closing.

"You like what I do to you right?" He asked and I nodded . It wasn't easy holding back a moan, especially when your boyfriend's cousin was cooking in the kitchen, and you just met her a few minutes ago.

Stella served us spaghetti and meatballs. The food looked yummy, but trust me, it did not taste like it looked. I forcefully swallow the spaghetti down my throat, with a forced smile.

Way to welcome me Stella.

Stella left later in the evening, finally giving Austin and I some space to do the nasty.

"You enjoyed the delicious food Stels cooked?" Austin asked, a mock smile on his face. I rolled my eyes, throwing a pillow at him.

I shrugged . "I did enjoy it." I lied.

"Mmhmm. I saw your face when you tasted it. You looked like you would throw up anytime soon." His deep laughter erupted round the house. I enjoyed watching him laugh like that. It always sent a warm feeling down my stomach.

I laughed, trying not to imagine how I looked. "It wasn't that bad." It was. At least I ate it.

"Not for a chef." Austin said and I scoffed.

"What do you mean by a chef?"

"She's a chef," he said and threw his head back in laughter. "She isn't giving up on her dream anytime soon."

A chef? Damn a wack chef she is then.

"She's Xander's sister." He said and my eyes went wide. They looked nothing alike. Well, from the pictures I had seen, they looked completely different.

I plopped myself down on the bed beside Austin. I snuggled closer to him, he wrapped his arms around me.

"Tell me about him. I want to know who he really is." I say.

Austin let's put a smile. "Xander is... arrogant most times. It depends if he's having a bad day, but he's always looking so angry." My heart skipped, from fear of meeting Xander already.

"What exactly am I applying for?"

"His PA. He got his other PA sacked recently. When I heard it, I remembered you needed a job, so I told him about it." He said, "Besides, you are fit for the job, and it pays well."

I nodded, thanking God for making me cross paths with Austin. He was my savior.

"He isn't friendly?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Well, he knows you're my girl, so I don't think he will be rude around you."

"Okay."

Austin moved closer to me, placing his head on my chest that was beating so fast. I looked down at him to catch him staring.

"When was the last time you got laid?" He asked, causing laughter to erupt from the back of my throat.

"I should be asking you that." I said in almost a whisper. Our eyes locked for about a second, before our lips came crashing against each other hungrily.
