The start

And the day finally came when Montavia will be here to teach us about magic. I was pretty much nervous as I haven't even possessed magic and yet I'm here to attend her classes. But Pierson told me that it's okay and Montavia will let me watch as she teaches Delilah for the time being.

Though I can't help but feel jealous.

Montavia greeted us and we lead her to a room where we'll be doing our lessons. Honestly, she's so pretty and kind I don't know why Pierson kept glaring at her when we met her earlier. Did something happen before me and Delilah went to her? Or maybe they know each other.

And since I haven't awakened my powers yet, Montavia told me to sit down and watch for the time being.

"So Delilah, what kind of magic can you do?"

"I can make flowers from my palms!" She showed her palm and a small daisy began spurting out slowly.

"Hm.. that's cute but is that all you can do, dear?"

"Yes… I haven't learned magic much as my dad told me to focus on archery"

"But why? Magic is the most important in this world, I mean weapons are too but magic is superior"

"I know, and I don't know why either, he just told me and I did what he said."

"Well, kids your age tend to collapse upon using too much mana, and you haven't learned much either, do you?"

"They didn't teach me how to use my magic either, I only found out I had magic when I got angry while playing on my own, and this daisy popped up from my palm"

"So you awakened your power through emotions?"

"I don't know… I'm not sure"

"There are different ways of awakening, one can be through dreams, for example, your magic is associated with nature, right? You can either find yourself in a field of flowers, or your surroundings are full of trees, like a forest. One can be through a situation, mostly during desperate times. For example, fighting an opponent and you're on the verge of dying, then your magic will awaken, and lastly, through emotions, it can be anger, sadness, or joy. All types of emotion, but it's commonly anger. And there's one more thing actually, but I wouldn't count it as awakening, instead forcibly? One can extract a magic power either from someone or somewhere, but it's mostly done in different places though it's hard to find."

"I didn't know there are so many ways... That's so amazing. H-how about you? How did you awaken your magic?" Delilah asks cheerfully, completely curious about everything about her teacher.

"I awakened mine through my dreams, and there can be a chance that Tabitha might awaken her powers through dreams as well"

Upon hearing Montavia's words, Tabitha's attention was now on them, and closed the book she was reading this whole time.

"Really?"

"Yes. I want to say something more but I cannot tell you yet." Montavia wanted to tell her that every Vandeleur awakened their powers through dreams, although every dream is unsettling. It can show something that will happen in the future.

Montavia is even afraid that Tabitha might awaken her powers today as she feels her mana growing and gathering in one, once that explodes then she'll awaken her magic. She's also curious about what her magic will be. Will it be like her mother's? Her father? Grandma? Grandfather?

"Anyway, Delilah, for the time being. Why don't the two of you go read a book relating to magic? No wait how about… the list of people who possessed a magic of your choice? What type of magic are you curious about?"

"Water type!"

"Air type!"

Both answered differently, and Montavia chuckled. Before going through the shelves to look for a book relating to the type of magic they had mentioned.

"Here, why don't you read the water type first?" Montavia then handed them a thick book and it was quite heavy too

"It's so thick…"

Tabitha opened the book to the first ever person to obtain the type. Laureen Yijovian was the first person ever to have water-type magic. Although despite being first, she wasn't the strongest. But the third person who obtained it was the most powerful one of the certain elements. The said person can summon water in any land the person wants to. But the most interesting thing about the first-ever user was the fact that they were the ruler of the sea, built a kingdom, and made peace with the sea creatures. There were even rumors that those who served the ruler back then are still alive to this day. It's been thousands of years and they are looking for someone to be their leader once again. And if that spot still cannot be fulfilled, they'll end themselves as they made a promise to the ruler that if they can't find a person who wants to rule over them, they'll give up that easily.

Both spent an hour reading the book, flipping through some pages as they found some boring. And after Montavia showed them another book

"See this is a book of spells I made myself" Montavia says as she held the book, the cover is even made out of gold and the pages are thick.

"Y-you created your own?!" Both say shockingly and are excited to see the contents of the book. Their curiosity towards their teacher is high. Maybe it can even reach the heavens?

"You can create your own spell, though keep in mind that there's always a limit to your power. But creating a spell is very hard. It took almost 3 years to complete my first-ever spell. And as I try new things over and over again, it soon lessened the time. For my lastest spell, it took me 5 days to do perfectly."

"That's so cool!" As Tabitha says this joyfully, Delilah on her side nodded her head furiously.

"But, you aren't allowed to know the contents of the book unless you have the same attributes and type of magic as me."

"But why?" Delilah asks while holding her chin with her hand

"It could be because trying to force yourself to use another type of magic you aren't familiar with, can cause either a minor or major effect on your body?"

"That's right, Tabitha. Although it can be possible to learn other types of magic you aren't familiar with, it could sometimes cost your life. And miracles happen which can make the person alive after such destruction."

"So if someone forced it, they'll just die? Their efforts are wasted then…"

"Yes, though Tabitha, I heard someone in your family tree managed to learn another element by force?"

"Really? I never knew that"

"How come? All Vandeleurs should know the history of their family tree"

"Yeah… I did read some but Thalassius took the books away from me as there was someone he didn't want me to know"

"Up to who did you read?"

"Um… Clementine?"

"I see…"

'Huh, that's the one before…' Those were Montavia's thoughts but she pushed those thoughts away to focus on one thing first.

"Let's read the air type next shall we?"

Montavia then grabbed another book and handed it to them. While they were reading, Montavia was writing things about her plans, what she would make the two do next, what her next task will be, her needs, and their needs.

"Look Delilah, The fourth user built a kingdom!"

"Woah a kingdom?!" Delilah was surprised as she was reading the other page unlike Tabitha who was reading the page on the right side

"It's even cooler as the kingdom is built in the sky! Can you imagine that?"

"No way, how do people get there?"

"Hm… maybe they managed to have wings…?"

"Wings???? Or maybe they managed to build a machine that can take them high up in the sky?"

"Hm… That's possible. But I wonder why the things made by the past users are gone now."

"Well, technology gets more advanced and that means things get abandoned. A thing that was useful and special before is useless and mainly nothing now."

"You're right"

But the two can't help but wonder, why must things should be abandoned? Is it because people get tired of it? But why? It's a precious thing. Why can't things stay longer like they should be? Why must things have to be thrown away after they are useless not knowing there are some who need them? Why do people lose love over something very important?
