Chapter 4

August 10, 2034, Subject Zero was ordered to enter World War 3 on the front lines to help the regimens in trouble. Like usual, Subject Zero was in all black showing no affiliation to any nation with bladed weapons in hand. Before Subject Zero was to set off, for fun we told him to pick up a bladed weapon to take into the battlefield, Subject Zero chose a death scythe. All the bladed weapons are made with high-grade tungsten, titanium, carbon fiber and laser sharpened. Subject Zero chose a weapon that will literally let reap lives when he kills. The moment he picked it up we were no longer laughing. He set off to the battles that needed his help the most.

Once the plane that held Subject Zero touched down, he didn't check in with anyone, his orders were absolute, as long as the serum held. Again, equipped with a body camera and the death scythe, Subject Zero ravaged the battlefield. His skin had become close to that of a soft steel. The bullets he was actually hit with no longer penetrated his skin, only left red marks. Only from 50 caliber or higher weapons could the bullets penetrate his skin but that is only if they manage to hit him. I worry that the next time he becomes loose from the serum in the lab it will lead to a much higher death count. As a joke, one of my staff of Japanese origins gave him a facemask that resembles a demon. I asked him where the mask came from; he responded that the mask was made with high carbon fiber here in the lab but the mask was from a not well-known manga series called Akumetsu by Yoshiaki Tabata. If need be, he said that the mask was equipped with an extra dose of serum just in case something unexpectedly occurs while Subject Zero is in the battlefield. I commended him for the ingenuity he showed. He also said that the mask could be equipped with different functions as it was shown in the manga but we will leave that for another time.

August 15, 2034. Subject Zero showed too high an affinity for death. With every swing of his scythe one or two heads roll. Because the scythe is made with technology, the metal and other materials make the weapon very deadly, depending on the user. Subject Zero just cleaved the turret of a tank, pulled out the driver sliced him in two and killed the co-pilot who fires the shells. The moment the enemy saw this scene, they all stopped what they were doing. From testimonies of those soldiers on the field that Subject Zero assisted, were made with mixed feelings. Many were glad that they got the help they needed and were able to make it back alive but the others saw him with fear and hatred. Subject Zero was sent to many other battles where he accumulated many kills. During a battle with the France and Spain, they dubbed Subject Zero "La Muerte", the Death. Nevertheless, who can blame them? With Subject Zero's death scythe, demon mask and being dressed in black, there would be a moniker placed on him eventually.

November 5, 2034. Subject Zero ended the war by decimating the enemies both in front and through assassination. The war had no leaders to rely on and the soldiers were too afraid to of "La Muerte" to join the battles. Videos were shown of Subject Zero's prowess. The main video that completely destroyed the European nation's morale was during the September 12th battle of Accona, a desert in Tuscany, Italy. The European Nations had enough of losing and decided to break the "Rules of Engagement and use nuclear arms. They dropped a W54, considered a small nuclear bomb, on the battlefield regardless of friend or foes. The bomb was made in efforts to put an end to "La Muerte". When the a satellite video caught the aftermath of the explosion the world shook in fear as a walking nightmare of a corpse rose from the wreckage of the blast and walked towards the remaining enemies as his bone, muscles and flesh was regenerating in front of their very eyes. Although nude, a being beyond their knowledge just walked through a nuclear blast and stands before them.

When the European Nations declared that they surrendered, the United States showed more mercy then we should have and gave them the cure to whatever ailed them. In April 3, 2035, Subject Zero was added into the "Rules of Engagement" and declared the first HWMD, Human Weapon of Mass Destruction. Subject Zero was put on ice and stored away until he is called upon. I didn't agree with those in charge as it was irresponsible to put someone like Subject Zero away at their own convenience. Subject Zero was the most effective and deadliest weapon the United States had, short of using nuclear arms. By having Subject Zero on ice meant the slowing down on medical advancement, even though we might have cured all the cancers and diseases we have or know of, but what is there to say about the future.

January 8, 2040. Today is my final day here at the lab. All my projects were shut down with Subject Zero on ice. The funding was being diverted into other areas. I wish I could have seen the whole project through but then the WW3 started, so all the plans I originally had went down the drain. With Subject Zero's incredible vitality I highly doubt that he will die or even deteriorate. I just hope that if there ever comes a time where he is awakened again, for whatever purpose, that they have a serum strong enough to drown a pack of elephants because of the usage during the war the serum had to be reworked multiple times. Since this is my final transmission for Project Zero, my word of advice is this; Do not think for a second that Subject Zero will show you mercy when he becomes free. I had my suspicions but I believe that Subject Zero, no Lance Muertezo, was aware of everything around him and that he remembered and recognized everyone who partook in the project. I will not arm myself or hold myself up in an uninhabited location because he will find me and he will kill me. As I stated before, I believe that with Lance Muertezo's contribution, although against his will, we would have been closer to extinction. I fear that there may be far greedier people with ulterior motives that will reopen Project Zero and when it does happen, just pray and hope that, by a slim or small chance, that Subject Zero does not remember you or you have treated him with respect, because there will be nothing to save those that were involved with this project, myself included. God what have we done? We created an unfeeling, an unstoppable and ever evolving human weapon. Even if God forgives us, Subject Zero won't.
