escape

For the remainder of the day the key kept stabbing me in the chest, causing my heart to race as I remembered how very soon we would make our jailbreak. I was extremly nervous, outside of this cell I had no clue where things were ir even how many guards lay in wait. As dusk approached I look around my cell for anything I could use as a weapon, just in case. My last meal for the evening came and soon after I wrapped the baby dragon in my cloak, tying it into a sling I carried it like a newborn child. My mind drifted into thoughts of children and how I would never have any of my own, shaking my head I pulled myself back into the present. Giving a quick look down the dungeon corridors I pull the key out and slip it into the lock. With a deep breath I give it a slow turn.

KER-CLUNK

It unlocked loudly, wincing I suck air in through my teeth, I really hope nobody heard that.

Creaking the door open slowly, I step out. My first time out of the cell in what I assume is weeks.

"Ok you. We need to find our way to the torture chambers." I whisper to the dragon. It looks at me like it understands and then looks down the darker end of the corridor.

"Are you sure?" It nods at me and we start that way. Sneaking through the darkness my eyes adjust, I sidestep some rubble on the ground. This castle must be ancient to be in such condition. Peeking around the corner as we reach the end of the corridor, I spot some guards at a table. An empty wine bottle rolls around on the ground.

"It appears even the men here have no control." I smirk at the sleeping drunkards, thankful for our good luck. As quietly as we could we tiptoed past the sleeping guards. A long winding staircase leads us into the torture chambers, grabbing a torch I start down.

"David?" I whisper once reaching the bottomed of the stairs. Seeing a large black mound I approach it.

"David, Is that you?" Holding my torch high to shine the light on it, I gasped. What I thought was David was in fact the bloody, rotting carcasses of dozens of baby dragons. I let out a loud gasping quickly averting my gaze. Feeling bile rise to my throat I quickly backtrack hitting my back against a wall. A wall filled with all sorts of torture devices. Theres whips, knives, chains, some devices I can't recognize with rows of sharp iron teeth.

"E..Ellie?" I hear a weak voice across the room.

"David!" Rushing over I have tears in my eyes,

"We need to get you out of here! Can you walk?"

"I..I don't know..."

Untying his ropes I notice his back is torn up to shreds.

"They did this because of scraps?! What kind of monsters are these people??"

"They went easy this time." He chuckled. Grabbing my thin petticoat I tear it into strips and dress his wounds.

"I'm sorry, it's all I have. "

"Don't apologize to me child."

Propping him up with my shoulders we slowly make our way to the stairs. Praying as we made our way up them, please let this work!
