Chapter 6: What happened?

It was morning time when Nyx's mother came to Nyx's room with a cup of tea and bread on a plate in her hand. When she entered the Nyx was panting and shivering in her sleep. As soon as she saw her, she left the plate on the ground and ran to her. As she went close to the bed, her husband came running to see what had terrified his wife but as he also got there, he was equally terrified or even more than his wife. W-what's wrong with her? He stammered. I think she had a bad dream and an asthma attack too.

Meanwhile in her dream.... instead of touching a branch she held a snake. When she realized it she shouted and then those she was watching turn back to see what was happening behind them. She was also so fast and so hid in a tree that had a hole in it's trunk. When they saw nothing they kept quite and stood there for sometime. At this Nyx stood up and was about to watch them again but their eyeballs met and she stood there immobile not knowing what to do. She was just watching watching them. When they started coming close to her she started running. She ran for sometime and whenever she turned back it was the same distance between them and she still standing at the place she was at first. She was still at where the branch was. She realized they just took one step when she started running. When she stopped to look at them their head fell on their shoulders like zoombies and they took another step. Then again she started running. This time when she turned back, she was a bit far away from them but they were still chasing her. When she got to a place, she fell down and inhaled what looked like a powder mixed with the smoke and the dark sand of the place. When she looked back they were getting closer, seeing this she got up again and started running while coughing hard. Breathing was becoming really difficult for her.

Meanwhile in reality she was still coughing, and shivering on the bed. Her parents were still trying to find the medicine for her.

Back to dream....she was still coughing and running. When the cough was becoming unbearable her running became slow but the people chasing her didn't slow down. Finally at a point she fell and they got to her. When they got there, they were still watching her the same way they were doing before she started running. When they reached her, she made another attempt to escape so she started crawling backwards. They didn't move, they were still watching her crawl backwards. When she sent her hand back to continue the crawl the held something. It had a very smooth surface at first but as she tried to experiment it further she held the hole down the surface and then raised it. It was a human skull. when she stood up from where she sat she realized she was sitting on quite a number of them. Her breathing then became more rapid and her coughing was more consistent. When she looked forward to watch those who were chasing her, they were smiling at her. When she saw that she mustered up courage, stood up and walked up to them. When she got somehow close to them about Six meters away from them, she asked them, who are you? Why are you after me? There was no answer from them. She asked again but now she shouted at them and took a step forward. Still no response but what happened infront of her was terrific. When she shouted they were on fire and soon they broke down and now turned just like the skulls she saw. The moment the skulls fell onto the ground, there was a clapped from nowhere and no one in particular. Nyx, my dear that's how powerful you are. Now Nyx was smiling but her breathing and coughing was till the same. You'll really grow to become a great person. And that was it the voice stopped and everything became still and she woke up from her dream confused.

Oh Nyx is awake said her father. Where's the medicine he asked his wife. Here they are. She responded. Nyx my dear, take your medicines. "Mommy will I die"? She asked. No no no no, why will you say that my dear, you're perfectly fine okay. Never think of that okay. She said trying to console her daughter. Daddy are you sure of what you guys are saying? Yes Nyx we're completely sure. Lets go and eat breakfast okay. You have to go to school. Okay mom I will be right there to join you guys. You better come early. Her dad said. Okay I won't be late like you always do. Really. Oh dad don't talk, after all you only woke up early for breakfast today because you wanted to see mom. She didn't sleep by you last night. As soon as she said this, her mom Alexa as her husband and the children call her started laughing at her father and was later joined by grandma and grandpa Cheng. Oh my boy Murphy or should I say Mr. Cheng, your daughter will tease you to death one day. As grandma said this Nyx winked at her father and walked up to her wardrobe to change from her nightgown. As she came down to eat, she was already in her uniform ready for school. As soon as they were done eating, she went to school escorted by her mother. One their way to her school, they came across her friend Seyong and as usual she was picked up by her mom. Once Seyong got seated next to Nyx, her mother asked , how are you doing Seyong? I'm fine Mrs. Cheng. she replied. "Okay that's good. Learn hard okay". Okay Mrs. Cheng. And also one more thing, take care of your friend for me okay. Okay Mrs. Cheng.

The next moment after the chat with Mrs. Cheng, the children started murmuring and giggling at the backseat. When Alexa heard their giglings she watched them through the convex mirror inside the car and smiled. She remembered sometime in her childhood. She once had a friend like this but they both parted ways when they completed high school. She has to come to Korea to continue high school and then college because her parents died and so she had to come to Korea from the states to stay with her grandparents. Hmmm she sighed and said "such is life" as she reminisce about her past. Mom did you say anything. Ummm no no not at all, she answered her daughter.

Here we are. Oh yeah, we have arrived they said as they got down and bid goodbye. Nyx's mother called, I love you Nyx. She said with a smile. "I love you mom, bye." Bye, she waved back at her daughter. Have a good day all of you. "Okay" the children responded in unison. She watched their backs as they walked into the school compound and drove off as they entered.
