PERFECT! I was 100% sure she would die during this trip with the MC. I mean death flags were everywhere.. Seriously guys/girls who are upset.. I mean REALLY?! You have been reading this story for 434 chapters and STILL thought this is a romance story? Sigh. The main character SKINS himself FFS.. I mean the Joker looks like a scrub compared to that.. (rest in peace Heath.. love and respect). With all due respect to the dissapointed: You missed the genre people.
haay.. a very long deep sigh!!!! Damn this story is so heartless.... FY, you are the most Coldest MC in the entire universe.... that even the sun can't melt.. you're heart is deeper than the ocean... so deep that even the light of the sun can't reach... I ask you man?? after you become an Immortal. what will you do?
The most important question is what will Fang Yuan do once he becomes an immortal? Unrestrained by the earth will he aim to ascend higher than the heavens? But what will he do once he reaches that peak? In the end, the demonic path leads to emptiness. Actually, no, cultivation in general leads to emptiness, once you have all you can have. what else is there in life to enjoy? Can you even feel joy anymore?
On romance in Xianxia and Xuanhuan genres... it is mostly a poor pairing of genres in general. Romance lives a lot from the fact that time is fleeting and romance is special and mysterious. Sure, there are notions of eternal love and such in romance, but these are not to be taken literally as they usually take a lifespan of about 70 years as max.. and the "eternal" is about rebirth where the mental age is still 15-50 at best. Basically, at 500 years Fang Yuan must have gone mad several times and long since have been a patient or even killed himself. Still, this is not the case because it is a magical world (his soul can grow as his mentality etc). Technically, all sorts of norms and values need a redefinition because the premises of this new world are vastly different from our own. Heck even that what I call "our own" is mostly a western norm concept which is already differend in many other places on our planet.. we dont even necessarily treat other races/ethnicities/religions/communities the same way we treat our own etc. Fang Yuan cannot really be treated as some western Guy or Eastern Guy or any guy but what choice do we have.. coming up with a whole new set of norms and values for every other fantasy story is impossible, not to mention, we still read stories to see our own values reflected in them most of the time. Long story short: Most novels about immortality and a higher state of being incorporate romance which is a genre- and logical mistake, as Ascendants have at least total control over their mind. Immortals etc are humans no longer (they cast aside their mortality) and are no longer motivated by mortal concerns. They ARE immortal.. a world of their own.. nothing else matters. But then I read how many chinese webnovelist act like preschoolers and write their MC chasing after *** wealth and ego even after they have become Golden Immortals of the Firmament.. For those interested in a character becoming the Absolut (more than God) I kindly advertise (PRODUCT PLACEMENT xD) The "Prince of Nothing" series by R. Scott Bakker which has 7 books in total by now and is about an Übermensch character who walks the path to the Absolute. Its pretty dark and psychological though, but a masterpiece anyway so give it a shot if you are interested. To be fair thats the only think I could actually read in Western Fantasy.. there are Patrick Rothfuss books but they are few and he is unfortunately always on a hiatus.
This chapter was so beautiful, the link between Desolate Ancient Moon and Fang Yuan, the stupidity of love in the Rockmen and Ge Yao. When Fang Yuan achieved 100% of aperture I think that the one who's the most worthy of him is the Desolate Ancient Moon. The author clear my mind with his novel, I really thank him for that~
