Angry Squirrel
Lots of great comedy moments in this chapter, yet I still feel melancholic. Yeah, I know. All good things must come to an end and such, but it's not even so much about my favourite book of all time ending. I just feel bad for Roland. After all his hard work and many deaths he doesn't even get to peacefully retire. Instead he gets punished in hell for half a century before being blackmailed to go an a completely new interdimensional quest, has to be raised by insane obsessed women that have both tried to kill him many times in the past, accompanied by his twin sibling that tried to bring about the end of the world because he wanted to have fun. I don't mind an "and the adventure continues" ending but give the poor man a break. Though I suppose him getting a break would be completely uncharacterisitic for this story. It seems that I've just gotten too attached to the character of Roland Mist.
Long chapter, lot to say: - I like how this chapter starts with a deep commentary about society, and then decides to just go the full comedy route. - Trip to Hell, nice. Roland is so proud of this perfect footshooting. - Yey Ayerrr - Comfy warm hell, is a peaceful place for Roland's standards. So calm compared to all his disastrous adventures. - It doesn't happen often in isekai stories that the MC starts a new life on earth. - Haha Karwenz, that's what you get for your plan with taking possession of women. - Amelia, you can't date a descendant. Also Roland is his own ancestor. - Roland, making Elisa your maid at the start of the story was big footshooting, since thanks to that she has now the perfect skillset to be your nanny.
This novel has accompanied me for several years now. It feels sad to see it ending, but end it must. Honestly the ending seemed a little forced, as many novels of this sort do, but regardless it was a fun ride. Hopefully the sequal will be just as good, if not better (assuming that gets translated).
Unpopular opinion, but my least favorite part of this whole chapter was the decision to make Karwenz a girl. I think it is a stupid bit that changes one of my favorite characters, which the author only threw in there to accommodate their own strange tastes. I just... really liked Roland and Karwenz as the twin brothers of the Mist and this ruined it for me.
