Peace in our time?

Year 2030

The world is filled with magicians. Some are talented, some lack even basic skills to make ends meet. With the advent of magic and the establishment of treaties, there hasn't been a major conflict between nations in decades. However, the rivalry between powerful countries persists. India, China, Japan, the United States of America, and Russia have consistently produced the brightest and most efficient magicians. Most of them are associated with the respective armies, but several have had dignified existences amongst civilians and are respected by the common folks.

Saptarishi Magic Academy is one of the revered institutions in India. Students can join from the age of 15, and train for a period of 6 years till they reach the cusp of adulthood. There are 6 major talents in the field of magic:

- Earth

- Air

- Fire

- Water

- Flora

- Lightning

Each individual is blessed with one talent and if they dedicate their time and energy to honing their skillset and perfecting their magic, they become great citizens who can apply their powers for the good of society. However, as long as good exists, evil will lurk in the shadows. DAEVIL is a terrorist organization that wreaks havoc in many areas of the world and tries to bring about chaos amidst a decent environment.

Meghnad is a 14-year-old boy. His father Amrit works as a fisherman and is quite adept at using water magic which helps his portfolio greatly. From a young age, Meghnad has been a lazy boy, which troubled Amrit. The wayward son refuses to take life seriously and spends all his hours gazing at the skies with a blank expression on his face. On some days, his father would need to spank him to interrupt his trance. Amrit wants Meghnad to qualify as a student in the entrance exams next year and hence he is forced to study the elements. The kid hates wasting any time on studious endeavors, so he decides to sneak out of his house one day.

Meghnad- "I'll lie about being 15 and at least attempt the exam. That way I'll know if I'm any good huh? The skies sure look grey today. It's gonna rain huh? Oh no worries, my dad will help me clean up huh? Do my underarms smell? Nuh-uh."

He arrives at the footsteps of Saptarishi Magic Academy and casually strolls in. His careless and absent-minded look irks a woman who constantly tries to overtake him but ends up failing miserably.

Enter Riya. She hails from a prestigious family which has consistently produced fire mages who have served in the armed forces. Due to her strict upbringing, she often hesitates to speak her mind and mostly ends up keeping her thoughts private.

Riya -"Ex-excuse me, sir? Could you let me pass? I'll be late for my entrance test."

Meghnad -"Damn, you have good genes huh? Your flaming pupils are a distraction missy."

Riya (in her head) -"Who the hell is this fellow trying to fraternize with me? Does he know who I am? Should I ruin this dirtbag's life right now?"

Meghnad -"Are you thinking about my biceps? I haven't gotten much, nuh-uh."

The red-faced Riya brushes past him whilst muttering to herself.

Venue: Admission Hall

Chancellor Karna - "Welcome to Saptarishi Magic Academy. Those of you who belong here shall have little to no trouble getting selected. Well, maybe a bit of trouble since we are the most popular magic school in India. Hehe. Now without further ado, let's get started. Boys and girls stand separately or else I'll be angry." A brown glow lights up deep inside the eyes of the chancellor.

Meghnad - "So he's an earth mage and the head. He must be darn good huh."

Every year, there are 6 classes chosen. People studying the respective elements focus their entire energy on just one which is their primary strength. Meghnad signed the attendance sheet at the gate which had reached the teacher's podium. He was admiring the intricacies of the chandeliers above him when his name was called.

Ch. Karna: "Now Mr. Meghnad Kumar, you know the rules. Place your hand inside the translucent box and wait for it to glow. Try to concentrate, don't let your mind wander."

Meghnad: "Uh-huh."

As he placed his palm deep inside the box, Meghnad tried to focus, but his butterfly dream kept eroding his concentration. Nevertheless, he let out a sigh and closed his eyes.

A collective gasp passed through the entire hall. The box lit up in a kaleidoscopic fashion and then shattered.

Meghnad - "Damn, that stuff's old huh?"

Riya was perplexed as well. Karna's jaw dropped and his assistant had to forcibly close it. This had never happened before in the history of magic. No man or woman had been chosen as the wielder of 6 different kinds of magic. Whispers ran amok as Karna tried to calm those present in the hall.

Karna - "Silence, please! Well, it seems that you are a special boy. You must step into my office. We both have a lot to talk about. The rest of you will be assisted by your teachers. After the selection, snacks will be served to all. Ciao lads and lassies."

Kumar rolled his eyes and followed the black-haired chancellor. All the teenagers looked eagerly at the pair, determined to see what unfolds next.
