Making him go into a coma for 5 years is ridiculous. No transformation takes that long. In canon, all vampiric changes, including into the beast, were an overnight thing. He would have been better off going for the Marcel-style transformation. As a progenitor of the vampires, will he have an impossible-to-heal-from bite that will even kill Originals? I’d have to see the pros and cons. In any event, going into a coma for 5 years is not worth the transformation.

Becoming the ancestor of all vampires is too op, you should nerf him because some vampires are gods. Since you haven't described his powers, I hope he won't be stronger than the gods of legacy .
