At this point just say my Quirk is [Energy Manipulation] .. that would explain his Strength and Illusion abilities .. and an excuse for him not using his quirk is [Old Habit of relying on his trained Physical and Mental abilities before he awakened the Quirk, Meaning he isn't overly reliant on his quirk but something that didn't magically appear one day]
