See, this is what I don't get. Fan-Fiction by it's very nature is AU (Alternant Universe) - AT (timeline) - AR (reality) etc... So it can close to the original or so VERY different. People who complain that it isn't "cannon" can just go read/reread cannon. Anyway you write how you wish. Take it moment by moment and do your best each moment and let the future take care of itself.

I have no place to say this, but I'm happy you decided that the story you're creating is your own, and not something that you have to change for the sake of the few.
