Roman winning for The Pianist had nothing to do with him being Jewish. If you understand the context of the time of the award being won, you’ll get why he won. It was right after the Iraq War invasion was announced. There was a lot of anti-war sentiment at the time. This film being about the horrors of war likely influenced the outcome. Also, the film was pretty powerful. If it was all about being Jewish, then why did Shakespeare in Love win over Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan??? There are other factors, including canvassing for votes, who has the bigger PR machine, and what is going on culturally at the time.
