Comments of chapter undefined of Enchanting Melodies (HP SI)

author, you told us that the canon was only forced for the first year but now the same thing is happening in the second year also

I believe that one of the problems with HP fics, is that so many authors are unknowingly contrained to JK Rowlings format, that something must happen each year. This is fanfiction, anything can happen if the author wills it. So why does noone take a year in the story to let the character grow? Something must always happen for the sake of happening. Instead of taking maybe 20-40k words for mc to grow strong, explore magic and the castle, write something new, character interactions, it has to be a rehashed version of the original plot. You say you are writing something different because the diary has potential as a plot device, by thats why so many people are upset. What you will write still involves the diary, and mc running around like headless chicken until you slowly reveal things. In essence it will still feel similarthe same as the original from the readers perspective. Plus you write slowly in terms of content. You write a lot, and you feel like it's also a lot, but not really. Obviously it's not the same for every chapter but, for example, the scene of Neville and Hermione pov could be condensed to much shorter.

So, this is how canon is going to be forced to continue.

That was really bad how you did that with the diary. A pathetically enforced plot point. How come the diary is camouflaged right NOW when your MC was looking for it and not from the start. So to not bother myself about it any longer, that's it for me.

For those who are freaking out about me forcing canon in some way. I’m sorry but this will be completely different from Canon. I won't go into detail to avoid spoiling things but you’ll understand when the year starts. I’m kinda planning something a little ambitious this year and the diary will play a critical role there. Honestly, just having Harry destroy the diary is a waste of potential since it's a very good plot source and could be used in many ways. So yeah, I’m done following Canon, so don't worry about that.

I think diary is with Tracy or one of his friends. I mean it’s always the place you least expect.

People are saying that with the diary in play that the author is still forcing the plot. This is just wrong because the plot has now changed because Ginny doesn't have the book. If the book wasn't there this year, what else would happen? It would basically be a time skip of Harry going through magical school. Also, the "plot" is basically just a sub plot to the real story of Harry Potter in Slytherin with cool magic.

Instead of pretifying, why not kill someone like Neville hahahaha he doesn't have a snake tongue which makes Basil more deadly since he couldn't hear him, and before you say he has a snake tongue remember that witch houses have animals for potions and other things and Neville must have already come into contact with them, and he should use Parseltongue to use magic which is much easier than Latin
