Fire can represent destruction, but also creation, interestingly the MC does not "be welcomed" good break of expectation. Maybe by cleaning these echoes and leaving the trees "pure" hearts, the MC will be able to create a kind of bond? Did you know that there is an island of Skane near Skagos (Northwest of Skagos if I am not mistaken). Where the Skagossi commited massacre when they invade that island and leave no one survived. It is said that island was cursed ever since.

Great story so far. Although I find skagos as a location a bit lame. Although u made the island bigger than in the books, wich is good. The place is just to close to Kingslanding. I was hoping he woud settle down in the north of essos or something. Two dragonclans is to much for westeros. The boy is ruining the plot :) Mc character is ok, although I don't understand how he is ok with these blood sacrifices and slavery as a modern man.
