This was before the mc of real-world fused with Damian Stark so some adolescent idiocy is justified. This is also why he has come back to sort that matter out and get all the help he can get from his family and in return help them and the North to prosper.

It would take weeks to gather the men, no way would it be just one day. Plus he is quite young, he could easily get away with not going to war without it making him look like a coward, especially if he focused on logistics.

Don't make him participate, it's just a hindrance to mc, make him maybe take the ironborn's ship who venture North tho i don't remember if there were some in canon since i never read the officials books, also get food to the army when they're close to coast or surroundings the ironborn for merit
