The problem belongs to both the readers who imposed on you something you did not like, and on you because you did not stay true to your-self and write what you did want at that time, you do not need to cater to anyone. What happend already happend, i hope that you could come back doing greater emotionally and being more confident in your decisions. I repeat myself, you do not need to cater anyone. The premise of the story is great, the execution is great, and there is even some minor character development.
