If there aren't doubts about his death from yami and he ends up being alive then this twist will be a bit distasteful. Yami is very expressive in communicating why he does what he does to the readers, basically breaking the 4th wall, something I don't like much but if he doesn't do the same here... and itachi ends up being alive then it'll be a poor tactic used to grasp the readers attention, youll end up crying wolf. and that'll hurt the value of this well written story. hopefully he does question it thoroughly in the next few chapters.
