Not understand why protecting yourself in life-threatening situation a bad thing here. Could have easily explained what happened with half-truths. Teacher saw low tier being bullied with no abilities, and lend the poor kid a gun to preserve his life in dangerous scenario. Definitely possible to get away with it. I find it ridiculous a "school" with superpowered people, think it is okay to let someone possess none, to exist in it without a weapon.
