The heat exchange approach seems almost unnecessary. Whatever ability he got couldn’t have been too powerful anyway. So why make it so that he needs to take heat in? It feels awfully restrictive. And his line of thought that cold-aligned monsters would have trouble with colder temperatures seems kinda naïve/stupid. Why would something evolve to deal with the cold not be able to handle some worse cold? Would 20° colder really be their limit, or is he just hoping that it is. And the description of how it would work in a warmer climate is, well, lame. I’m hoping the apparent weakness is mostly a result of his lower power level. If not I don’t see the point of even investing in an element if a single one already has such a huge caveat.

The equation in a warm area (50 C to 40 C while bringing the surrounding area to 30 C) does not seem to make sense, does it?
