Now I’m thinking that maybe Sylas should have taken a look at all the rewards first before making any choices. Wasting one reward only to end up with nearly the same thing again seems a bit forced.

Arctic Royal -> Arctic Elite
The answer seemed very obvious. Even though some of the others were interesting, and he wanted to have improvements to his Physical as well, this was the only path he could take. Plus, there would be opportunities in the future to upgrade the Class further, presumably. Even if he was stuck on the path of the Arctic Royal now, that wasn't so bad either. His battle style still heavily relied on his Mental regardless.
