I think Cassie is Torment, but in the same sense that Sunny is the Mad Prince. I think she's experienced the time loop of the river a few times over now, and those journals are her recollections of what has already taken place. But she's not aware of each cycle right away. She takes time to become aware each cycle. And she became aware again on Aletheia's Island. Now she knows everything that has happened and will happen, and she is about to do something drastic to prevent something from happening that she has seen happen already, time and time again.
Dextuary:have you been reading or skimming? Nephis CANNOT be corrupted hence why the rest killed her when they got corrupted. We even got this from Dread Lord's mouth and he couldn't have been lying since Kai was there and would have warned Sunny that it was a lie
This is almost physically painful... I thought we were going to have a secret revealed and I have more questions now! For a moment I expected the battle with Torment to break out right there and then, Cassie will not come out of this nightmare alive and her last words will be the apology that Sunny has been demanding for ages.
On an unrelated note, I was thinking about the Kingdom of Hope and the connection to the ToA. There were two portals in the dream realm - one where Noctis' knife remained at the Sanctuary of Noctis, and one where the knife for The One in the North ended up in the Night Temple. Since there were three knives unused (Solvane's) until Sunny used it, why isn't there a portal on Shipwreck Island (or on the Chain Breaker)? Also, since we've accounted for Solvane and seen signs of Noctis here (Ananke's mantle [Tasteless]), when are we gonna see evidence of The One in the North? Are these journals part of it?
