Theory 2: Sunny’s inheritance is from a slave girl, but her master is not the God of Death. She was the God of Death. Like Sunny, she started as a Child of Shadows but eventually grew to become divinity of Shadows. She practices the Shadow Dance, and is gifted with the art of deception. Because of this, I think the slave girl was actually the slave to the ”Lord” hero in the original group of 7 heroes (later to be the Gods), who would late become Lord of Light the Divinity. She was the “Slayer” hero with the stilleto sword if I had to guess. I’m thinking that before all the Gods died from death, death made a little fail safe in the form of reincarnation (which will be super interesting if that’s the case because Neph is called ”Lady Neph” which would be a reference of her being the reincarnation of the Lord hero) in which the Gods would be reborn again and again in human bodies until they correct their past mistakes which brings me to my third theory…
... good theory... but why Slave girl? I have no issue with it, but why specifically? because of the tie in theory with the stiletto wielder in your other theory?
IceNSnow:Additional note: Following with theory 1 that the number 7 references some aspect of a God’s back story, an interesting note when we are introduced to Sunny’s vision of the slave girl is that there are “7 lights that generate 7 shadows” not only does this indicate her eventual Godhood, but I think it also refers to how she is enslaved to the God of Light, give that the 7 shadows are birthed from the 7 lights. It also makes me wonder if the personalities of Sunny’s eventual 7 shadows come from the original heroes the slave girl was in the party of (aka the personalities of the Gods)
Alright I’ve got a theory that’s gonna blow everyones minds (not fully complete yet tho)…. Whenever the author mentions 7 in this novel, it’s (from what I can tell) a reference to a God’s back story. Not something related to a god, it is referring to the GODS. Now let me explain…. Theory 1 (long theories so I’m gonna split em up) Remember back in the Forgotten shores ark (yea ik it’s pretty far back), there were 7 heroes who were born from the darkness of the Unknown. But what if these weren’t just any humans, but rather the origin stories of the Gods that are referenced in the dream realm. An alien force (something from the stars) bestowed these humans unprecedented powers which they could grow from. I know, I know it says they die in the story. ”They sacrificed themselves for the people” but then I thought about something. What were those words that Noctis told Sunny… oh yeah never trust the Gods. So back to the theory, these guys were once human, but gained the power of the unknown, giant skull three eyed guy Im sure you’ve heard of it, and I’m willing to bet that they got Sunny’s multiple core upgrade. They wanted to conquer the unknown… but couldn’t, they could only seal it yadadada. But in order to do so, they had to sacrifice their civilization to do so, and started anew leaving their past mistakes Forgotten at that Shore ;). They either grew their powers during these events or afterwards, but eventually became divine like beings (in fact I’m willing to bet that if Sunny can progress through all of his trials, he will go from Child to Divinity of Shadows and adopt the hallmark of his inheritance)
Theory 3: The Nightmares are a trial and error system in which the reincarnations of Gods can be tested to see if they learned from their past mistakes. As I mentioned in theory 2, the God of death, I believe, made a fail safe switch in which the Gods, when dead would reincarnate back into new human bodies. Why? Because the Gods have screwed up… a lot in their histories. In fact, I’m willing to bet that all the nightmares, the concept of memories, the ”Echos” are all convenient terms for the Gods’ pasts and the mistakes that came with them. The mistakes of the original heroes in the Forgotten Shore and the Chaining of Hope both seem to indicate this. Death wanted to reset this and idk if she coordinated with Demon of Fate (still not entirely sure yet tbh how Daemons fit in to this story yet, the mask of Fate might be worn by a God who becomes a Daemon, maybe Death does it idk, I need more info) but basically they developed a method where the reincarnations of the Gods can be tested over and over again until they are ready… to do what you might ask, well that brings me to theory 4.
