With his power and involvement in the canon next few events the should diverge. He could save Asuma, kill a couple of akatsuki members, fight Pein when he attacks konoha which should result in konoha not destroyed as well as Danzo not being hokage. Fight in the fourth shinobi war while fighting Madara and stopping bijudama's of the ten tails with his sword cutting them. All in all it has everything needed to diverge from canon in a good way so I would be very disappointed if this just on going as they were in canon for one reason or another.

Do you remember Enel from One Piece? He possess Kenbunshoku Haki, known as "Mantra". His Haki is further enhanced by his Devil Fruit powers, making him virtually omniscient of the thoughts and actions of Skypiea. Since the mc has master Lighting release to the extreme, why not have him replicate that technique? With that technique he will be virtually be omniscient of the thoughts and actions of Konoha. He will be able to spy on everyone even Danzo. As long someone is in the range of his Haki he will be able hear everything. Man it is just regrettable that he can not gain access to the system. Enel Devil Fruit would have make him complete. At that time he would have gain power close to the Six Path level.
