After observing the arguments of the comments, I changed my mind, so that shinji becomes more ruthless within the tolerance limits of hiruzen, the letter (b) and the most appropriate. If the mentor is really kabuto, then the MC discovering and going after the kabuto, they may end up negotiating, and shinji may try to convince kabuto to accept him as his assistant and in return saiyuri may stay alive (if she is still alive).

B normal torture wont work hes a ninja witha rubber boddy so you have to do it the hard way and torture him so that even after he gives the answers he doesnt want to live torture to the point where if he does make it back alive he’d be to scared to tell anyone about what he observed.
