That's it? Aww, come on. Don't end a chapter like that. We are paying extra to read this right away. Throw the readers a bone. We are so invested in this story. It's so frustrating to have these short chapters with cliffhangers.

I actually do not understand why he would now come up with this. I mean she went to the tower for him. To help him. Everything she has done has been for him. I get he’s got issues with what happened with his mother and throughout his years as a mercenary and as a knight, but I mean he accomplished many things all on his own, that’ s how he coped with every and each of his traumas. She on the other hand grew up being abused to no end and she really believed herself useless, unloved and unregarded. I mean she was never even held by her mother. This woman received no love from no one up until this man showed her his love for her. And in return she has tried numerous times to show her love for him. I mean she let all her walls down. She learned magic. She went to the war at Eth lene out of love and ended up saving him out of love and almost lost her life in the process. She helped him not lose everything he had gained through his hard work by going to the tower and then enlisted herself on a suicide mission for him so she could be with him once again. And he says that his desires don’ t matter. I just don’ t get it! This is absolute nonsense. It really is. And all because he fails to see that all her actions have actually shown she cares and loves him. With what he said he still does not acknowledge her as anything more than just a trophy. And that nonsense of now him wanting to think of herself by making decisions for herself is him still trying to decide for her. This is the first time I feel a little aversion towards Riftan. And I definitely feel the unfairness in Maxi’s life. When will she catch a break.

This chapter sure was something. I am so mad at Riftan. How dare he bring up the duke after all he did and all his threats to maxi. I understand his intention but it was horribly done

I get that you are wounded and still in much pain from your past and that Maxi even caused some of the pain, but she is 100% correct. You just told her that becoming a mage was the first choice she’d ever made for herself and that she should do what she wants, but you failed to be brave enough to ask her what that choice was. Do better!
