tbh, i thought he picked up the cat for some graduation ritual (where she would have to kill the cat to make a point, and become a blind fanatic or smth.) When i saw your author comment in the previous chapter which said it'll get darker, didn't expect you to pull this stunt. It's quite mild, not dark at all. Grey, yeah, but dark is a strong word for your situation.
