His demeanor is that of the past Ryu, so the arrogance and his behaviour is instilled in him because of that. But he probably does not realise that he is in his second awakening because he never once mentioned anything remotely related to that. I never once saw him brag about anything, its never mentioned once. THe sky god is the supposedly the highest existance, so the trial will be tough and as author said you need the mental fortitude to witness his journey.

can we stop with the fate sucks stuff? I'm pretty sure we all get it already and I honestly don't see a point for him to keep suffering like this besides increasing word count

I love this! The author is showing, not telling. His rise will be all the more meaningful. Us readers will form a proper bond of attachment to this MC's rise and falls. It will get worse before it gets better, I hope.
