One of the origins of the strife between the natives and the colonizers was that they had different ideas of property ownership. When the Natives accepted payment for "land" they thought the colonizers wanted to pay for access to it. The idea of exclusively owning land was not made clear to them until later on (after the shooting started). It'd be interesting to see if Berengar approaches this cultural divide with kid gloves or a iron fist.

You know what would be a nice twist, finding some sort of reincarnator in the new world with similar knowledge to Berengar, having to face a more advanced Mayan Empire would be awesome haha
