I think this will ONLY be useful in battle. In Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, he levitates a rock that gas been shrunken into an ogre’s mouth, then releases the spell. As the rock expands, the ogre’s head is split open. Another use is that you could take something that weighs 10 tons, shrink it so it’s 5 tons, and drop it on an enemy. It would be an enormous amount of force exerted on a very small area, which would make it very likely to break through their defenses. For that very reason, the gun is newrly useless for storage and transportation. A 20 ton elephant shrunken to 10 cm would result in a 10 ton weight pushing down on a 10 cm area. It would rip your fingers off if you tried to lift it and it would crack the floor if you put it down. When 100 people team up to carry a heavy load, it’s manageable, but if it’s so small that only one person can get their hands on it, now you need one person who is as strong as 100!
