I really like the logical sequence of events instead of Fujin disregarding the unlikeliness of success and trying to catch Hidan purely for plot purposes. It makes him seem more like a real person than a simple marionette pulled by the author's strings (like 99% of the characters in the stories here on webnovel)
was there a need to fight kakuzu? as well as for plot purposes I mean. Hiruzen knows that Fujin has already met him, it was enough for Fujin to stop, communicate the presence of an S-rank ninja already met in the past and the suspicion that Itachi was present. At that point, considering that the mission had been accomplished it would have been perfectly logical and justified for them to retreat. Furthermore, his companions not being elite Jonin would probably have happily accepted to avoid the clash with two S-rank ninja in a complex situation
for those saying the author has been to focused on fujins thought process and the last few chapters has been boring I can tell you've all forgotten how animated series plays, not everything should be battle and powerups, chapters like these are the reason why we anticipate what's going to happen next and also creates an image of the mc's character in the readers mind, from the few chapters previously you can tell alot about fujins character and how he seriously prioritize his self and getting stronger even willing to kill allies if possible.
also fujin knows nothing about hidan except the fact that's he's immortal and serves a God called Jashin, so why waste time and resources trying to get a jutsu that you know nothing about and might take alot of time and effort and even at the end not succeed, when he could be focused in learning significant jutsus that would at least take him to upper kage level and after that find away to break through, even try to master a kekkai genkai if possible
I do understand the frustration some readers would feel, the last few chapters has been somewhat of a shock and diversion from what we all thought fujin would be focused on, cause honestly i don't understand the hype behind hidan, jashin and it's abilities, from the series we could tell hidan is actually weak when compared to other S-rank shibobi's, infacr he's just an elite jonin gifted with immortality so fujin beijg obsession with Jasmin feels totally unnecessary
