I always found weird how Leaf isn't the one that is the leading authority on poisons... being basically a huge florest, there must be tons of poisonous plants there
You could argue that it is a forest, not a jungle. For the record, you see the most terrifying poisons in Australia's desert so I thought it to be pretty logical for Sungakure to hold this lead. However, I guess in the naruto world, it also depends on the clans' specialization. Aburame is pretty strong, but it is small in comparison to the wild puppet brigade (not a clan, but you see my point)
No matter how Passive you are... An attack on your outpost, killing so many of your subordinates, it is totally illogical not to retaliate... That is an attack to start a war... It doesn't matter if they are weaker, starting a war against Sunagakure will weaken it, and it is obvious that the other main villages would take advantage of it to attack Sunagakure in its moment of weakness... You don't have to think much to know how destructive Onoki and Danzo would be in Sunagakure when they detected a War between Tanigakure and Sunagakure...
