The future son theory is more like it... There's no way Lia's boyfriend can put a trace in "Damon's" mind, and he call "Damon" his son so...

Seems to be not his future son. Niece (if time travel) or long lost brother maybe since Damon is too naive for just taking his own shield. Quin would raise a far competent heir.
