First as said in the text he without any protection or knowledge he faces one of the most dangerous magic there is, then he literally exposes one of the 3 greatest treasures ever revealed in Harry Potter history and brings vital information about the other 2 relying only on the old relationship of teacher and student? But who's to say Alan isn't tempted to steal the stone? After all can it be said that the stone represents the maximum of soul magic a temptation difficult to resist, or even the other relics to become the lord of death?

Why don't you make Quinn propose Alan projects on creating mind arts he remembers from previous life like magecraft of Atlas at Fate? It is mainly about efficiency under occlumency so it will be excellent support for his future and since Alan is pinnacle at mind arts it will be an appropriate project for 5 years apprenticship. They can be like co-researchers Alan's raw ability Quinn's previous life creativity. It can be pretty fun and useful.
Yeah.. he had the stone for a little while fiddling with it and thought of a little barrier and suddenly the genius character somehow believed he could handle it just because.
