I've just noticed, why does the family of William Carter so worried of being kicked out while in fact they were gifted with an expensive car, a villa and million dollars by Lucas? And why is it that Lucas did not take back from Charlotte and her parents those gifts intended for his wife if he really wants to make her happy? What's the use of hiding the truth from her when he wants to make up for the lost time, just want to show to the readers that the situation is too complicated for Carter family?

They do have deeds. The gifts that were given by the butler right?? Why are they so concerned by being kicked out of the family. Please enlighten me.
