Can you point something out that points to oz being emrys from the teachers pov? It’s being read like an awful plot device rather than him having any evidence or hints whatsoever
The initial interest came from being an Orphan Slytherin, which would have been more a theory of 'Is he the descendant or maybe even another Tom riddle'. Then that initial interest would have snowballed as Oz evaded Severus and Dumbles throughout the year making Dumbles intrigue towards Oz grow. Eventually leading to the bullying event were Dumbles let's it pan out to see if Oz truly is 'something' rather than stepping in. Dumbledores own urgency to solve this all stems from who is coming to Hogwarts next year. he doesn't want unknown variables in his walls like Oz so he dug deeper initially than he would have usually despite the small amount of information laid out. I definetly could have explained that part better, but essentially it's Dumbles twisted curiosity that appeared when Oz was first sorted and brewed throughout the year that led to this point. Hagrid was then the final link needed for Dumbles to confirm In his own mind that Oz HAS to be the descendant.
Skepparn:yeah it never actually made any sense at all how he got the info on oz like why would him being super talented mean him being a emrys when both him and voldemort before had the same talent and if he didn't have any hnt before how would he get so far into his scheme to try and find out if the mc was actually a emrys
So, he JUST finished admitting Oz is more intelligent than expected and capable of great foresight. But he's incapable of understanding that him allowing the bullying to happen will have given away to Oz that Dumbles knew and told teachers not to act, which would create enmity, which would work AGAINST dumbles' wishes that Oz be a boon for him and his faction. Pepega so smart.
