3rd person POV is better

both. write however feels better for you. sometimes writing a side chapter from some randos pov can enlighten you on where/how the story will progress if you are ever stuck

Should if given the side character the light element instead I just feel like space is too op for him

I’d say stick to 3rd person. Whatever you choose please stick to one.

I always prefer 1st person. It is harder to write well though.
