You guys need to understand that the MC is still very young now, being a bit naive here and there is more than understandable.

so this MC is a moron that exposed himself without thinking and he is going to ruin his cultivation by choosing a weak beast rather than waiting to rank up. at this point I'm starting to hope he dies in the wilderness.

Yeah... This is pretty crazy, if people knew mc can just measure beasts potential, he would be locked up by some group and made to do it. And mc is telling this to Greg who is essentially stranger still and in place that has other people. Also there's simple fact that mc could be wrong, this is first time he has done this. This is one of the more important moments in this world and mc is willing to potentially ruin someone's start, someone who he is fond of. Not to mention Greg trusting mc with this important decision is also quite crazy. Both are still very much strangers. You also have to remember, Greg's family is suposed to be in beast trade.
