An issue of this chapter is conflating upholding your honor with being prideful and arrogant. If, let's say, you were forced to sell your body to live and you refused and chose to die, does that make you arrogant? Absolutely not. Arrogance is believing you're superior to others and upholding your own beliefs and values is **NOT** arrogance
I would understand if the protagonist had a personality similar to Fang Yuan (RI), a demon only lives for the benefit, in the previous chapter he would have killed his mother without hesitation, but the protagonist of this novel has nothing like it. The MC can let go of pride but can't let go of humanity? He failed the journey before it even began. I can't stand hypocritical MC.
A lot of people said pride and arrogance are bad things. In fact, there are two kinds of arrogance. The first is blind arrogance which is due to his/her background or delusion and the second is true arrogance which stands from his/her belief, abilities, intelligence, self-confidence, etc. Additionally, only those with blind arrogance behave rudely and immature. So, if having high expectation and respect for yourself is labeled as a wrong thing, then that society is clearly something wrong.
