it's quite ironic because you can't harm them because they are "family" ... guess at the end of the day you just desperately need a family and you don't want to disappoint them by failing them so you just endure

The reality of Gerald's situation is written so well. When a child is abused from early age, they develop an instinct level of fear towards the abuser. Especially if the abuser is their parent. In children's psychology, parent equals life. Whatever evil the parent does against the child, they will always stive for the parent's love and acceptance. Even if Gerald knows well that he could kill his father, even hurting him would equal suicide on a psychological level.

I say Sarah is a freaking idiot. All the blame is on to her. Why would she leave precious belongings there? Why did she not store it in a more safer place if she think its precious? Leaving it alone might even get it destroyed if a monster horde, earthquake or storm passes there!
